    Default Pioneer Laseractive

Thoughts on this? I'm always trying to consolidate space in my console collection, and further, own none of the TG systems. Anyone think the Laseractive is the best chioce? What are the downsides? What's a good price for the system + the 2 modules? Can you use a 32X with it? How about the Genesis addon that lets you play SMS games?

    Thanks,
    Kevs

To add to the questions on this bad boy, does it have built in support for dolby digital?

To address the questions in order:

    - It's a great system; can be had for about $150 with a Sega module. However, finding the TG module will be an expensive proposition. They tend to go anywhere from $200-$300.
    - Can't use a 32X with it; won't fit in the cart slot, nowhere for the auxillary power to be connected.
    - Same with the Power Base Converter; although somewhere on the net I've seen a hack that involves taking it apart. Not really worth the trouble.
    - There is a Dolby AC-3 hack available, but it involves surgery on the unit... doesn't come built-in.

It's definitely a niche system. If you want all the details on what's available, click on the link in my signature to get the Official DP List (tm). Great stuff

Wait, Larry I just did some digging and it says it has an optical out on the back. So my question is, I have some laserdiscs where the entire right channel is just noise, and the Dolby Digital logo is on the Laserdisc sleeve. So just because the optical out is on the back, it still won't work with the discs I have?

None of the LA only titles really interest me, so which of the following would you say is probably the better combo:

    Laseractive w/ both modules
    Genesis w/ Power Base Converter & 32x

Gen w/ 32x, PBC & CD, TG w/ CD and Duo?

That is, do any of these have a history of breaking early, or not running certain games, etc.?

    Thanks again for the help!

Since you're not interested in the Laseractive games, I'd suggest the second option. Unless you have a large collection of laser discs that you still watch...
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.

Actually I know someone who just busted up a Power Base Converter for use in a Laseractive (and so do you - it's John Hardie), and it works great. Looks silly, but works great! No special mods required (except for maybe a hammer to smash the plastic shell) :P
