Glad I read this post, I picked up a sealed chronicles for $10 at my local flea on sunday. They apperantly don't know what they have, but not that I'm complaining
(i think it stomps castlevania IV personnally)
Couldn't agree more
I thought it was the other way around? my bad!Originally Posted by bluberry

No original mode is supposed to be kind of like the orignal X68000 version which was much harder.
$50 may be a bit too much... I remember paying only $30 for my copy. But hey, for Castlevania, the price matters not. I paid $100 for Akumajo Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, and I think the price was right. That's besides the point. If you think it's too much, then look around and see if you can find one that doesn't cost as much. I'm not sure of the rarity on it, but I imagine that it's not as gratuitious in stock as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. See if you can try to find one that's only $30 or less, and if not, then goferit anyway, because there isn't a bad Castlevania title. Even the worst game in an excellent series is still a good game on its own, i.e. The Castlevania Adventure. Trust me, this is better than The Castlevania Adventure.
BTW, the Original mode is damned hard to beat. I should know. ^_^
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

I've heard a lot of people say that, but I really don't remember this game being that hard....I think I beat in a few hours without a sweat. Is there something I missed, like extra modes or something?BTW, the Original mode is damned hard to beat. I should know. ^_^

The moral is, don't **** with Uncle Tim when he's been drinking!
Much of SCV4's music is better composed, and some of the levels are better. Aside from that, x68K's graphics stomp SCV4 into the ground.Originally Posted by bluberry
Now here's a question that I'm still not sure about (as I only have the Japanese version of Chronicles, sealed too): What's the gore like in the Original mode's Dungeon level? Also, are the sprites fat looking?
If you look at the disc in the right light you can see that it is died red instead of black. Very cool little extra.

Almost all games in the series can stomp Castlevania 4.Originally Posted by whoisKeel

Bah! C4 is GREAT! Its fun, not too hard, and features some of the SNES best graphics and music.
Now Bloodlines, there is a crapper!
SO not the Drama.
CV4 is probably the best CV4 with the PS2 one a close 2nd. The music, the graphics are top-notch and the play control is great!

no love for CV4 ;_;

I enjoyed this game alot...it was the one game that made me go back to Genesis. For being a Genesis title, it still made me go "THIS IS GENESIS?! "
Yet, Bloodlines is worth it..it was enjoyable...and to me it's an esstential for any Genesis/MegaDrive owner
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
You obviously haven't played very many Castlevania games if you think those 2 are the best in the series.Originally Posted by Kaine23

The Igarashi games, though... ick. They may not have as tight control, but I'd take the N64 games over the PS2 game because they actually have LEVEL DESIGN. I'd take SotN and CotM over HoD and AoS anyday too.
I've played through all of them numerous times with the exceptions of the N64 and PS2 ones. I only played part of the first N64 one and haven't touched the other ones as I don't have the systems.
Castlevania 4 has absoutely no challenger other than maybe the last level. It's controls weren't as responsive as the other games. It's only claim to fame is you could whip in 8 direction which just made the game even easier than it always is. I'm sure if I played it again and I could a lot more things wrong with it. Other than maybe the Gamboy ones it by far one of the worst games in the series. Why people rave and love that game I'll never understand.
CV4 doesn't have any less challenge than any of the modern CV games, so eh, if people can rave about those... Rondo is a pretty dang easy game too, in my opinion.
The lack of significant challenge would probably be my only complaint about the game. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all top-notch, in my opinion. I personally had no problem with the controls, but I didn't have a problem with the one directional whipping and no mid-jump direction changes of the earlier games either. Really, I think all the CV games have decent controls for the most part, even the often-hated CV Adventure. I'll never understand the whining about many of the games that appears to be so widespread. I think it's another case of people jumping on the bandwagon when they see one person hating on a game (just look at all the people who talk about how horrible CV Adventure is when they've never even played it).
Adventure has good controls...it's just that you have to be within three pixels of a block for a series of about TWENTY jumps in a row in one area. You can always go back if you miss, but...damn, that's just rude.
