Look, being as I'm the guy who wrote the original public-domain code generator that's been around since December '03, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. I really do.

However, first let me set one thing straight - there is nothing mystical or special about Lao in Tzu. It just so happened that there was a fluke where he somehow managed to get a standard NES contest code - the same kind of contest code that Nintendo has been generating on the Animal Crossing website for ages now for things like Clu Clu Land D and most recently Soccer. Let me repeat: There's nothing special about it other than the fact that it was the first unofficial NES contest code. There's nothing embedded into the code type that makes it any different from any other NES contest codes, and in fact my code generator can make a Punchout code for you if you just enter in your player name, town name, and the Punchout item number (which you can find in the item list on my webpage).

Furthermore, the game runs a check on items obtained by the NES contest code. In fact, it has a list of fifteen possible NES games that can be obtained via a NES contest code, and guess what? Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., and Ice Climber are not in that list. They are the four games out of 19 in the game that were omitted from the list that the game checks against. Punchout was not omitted, so it's fair game. I repeat, it is a physical impossibility to receive Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., or Ice Climber via a NES contest code. Period.

Also, the line that Tom Nook is saying in the screen shot is not even what he says upon receipt of a NES contest code, so obviously if this code is real, it wasn't made via the NES contest code type, so any of you theorizing about parallels between it and the whole Lao/Tzu fiasco are kindly requested to shut your trap.

At any rate, as I wrote the homemade code generator in the first place, I will actually pay Immutable not one, not five, but ten dollars if this code actually works. No strings attached other than the fact that it'll take a couple days for me to get the money together, so payment may not be instantaneous. Send me the code, and if it works, you will be ten dollars the richer, and will have all manner of gummi bears available to you with this ten dollars. Period.

Adding to what MoggleGuy said, there are a ton of people on the GameFAQ/Spot boards asking how to get the F4 and Punchout. A contest code can be used to get Punchout, but there are no codes for the F4. The CodeGen can generate codes for them, but they will NOT work. Also, the AR can mess up your game and cause strange things, like this.

Ok, I just deleted the eBay auction having used the code without the AR memory card in slot B. Now here's how I got the code...

    1) I bought an AR, and used a couple codes to unlock the rare NES games and make a ton of furniture purchasable.
2)I was able to make pieces of furniture accessable to Nook and "hear the code" for Zelda, specifically for tholly's character then mine.
    3) tholly's didn't work, but mine did with that AR memory card in slot B.

I thought the code would work without it and made a big stink. But now, having tried it without the AR card, I finally realize my error. So just to let you know there was a code that worked, but it completely defeats the point of my thread....

    so...

If you were interested in the code and have an AR, then you would be able to get this code to work to get Zelda.

    NAME: (space)Lao
    TOWN: Tzu

    3Ec5zh9sY0#kLm
    ZY&9#y0VkucQnV

but like I said it completely defeats the idea of being a stand-alone code.

    ...my sincerest apologizes.

Yeah, it's technically a valid code, but the fact is the game simply won't take it.

Wait a sec. Is there an AR code to force Tom Nook to give out a universal code?

Man the one thing I always wanted when I was a kid..was to get a bucket of gummi bears for my birthday...my favorite candy right there...those tiny bears are in terror when they see my jaws of Ghouls N' Ghosts!
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
