    Default Eternal Darkness Destroys Gamecubes?

I have been seeing post on other message boards saying that Eternal Darkness(ED) is damaging Gamecubes. After playing ED the Gamecube gets Disc Errors and will not read any game after that. I know when I play ED I can here the Gamecube crank away as it loads new data. It puts the Gamecube thru more loading then any other game. I have'nt had any problems so far and I have played ED for over 20 hours. Is the game actually damaging Gamecubes or is it just finishing off the weak and wounded Gamecubes out there? Anyone else having any problems??

No problems for me. My GC does make a lot of noise when loading the game, but other than that it works fine.

Maybe it only affects certain GCs produced after a certain date?

Now I have a good theory on this actually. ED cutscenes push the GC to the limit because it is streaming realtime both the video and audio simultaneously. Hence all the noise you can hear from the console as the lens moves about the disc. A number of people have complained about the sound being very jerky because their GC hasn't been up to dealing with the streaming required. The only option there was to replace their GC. I'm just wondering if this problem then extends after using ED...

I've got a first generation GCN and played all the way through the game without any problems. Never got the disc read errors. But then again, maybe I haven't used the console as much as some other people on this board?

This is a problem that newer systems will always have. I can hook up my Atari 2600 today that I bought back in the 80's and it will still work. Most problems can be fixed by just cleaning the connectors. In the new systems there are too many moving parts that have to be alligned perfectly for the machine to work. How many of the new systems will be working in 15 or 20 years?? I have already had trouble with Sony. Playstation 1 stuttering on cinemas and music. Playstation 2 quit reading CD-ROMS. The Playstation 1 works fine when I turn it on it's side and Sony fixed the Playstation 2 for free. My Dreamcast I bought on launch day is still working fine with no problems. Now I hear that CD-ROMS are lighter then DVD's and can float in a Playstation 2 and become scratched. Is'nt progress great? Oh well, back to Devils Crush on the TG-16(It's still the best pinball game).

ED is very load-heavy. If your system ever skips during the cutscenes or has load times, this is likely indicative of something that may be a problem later on down the road. If this happens a lot, check with Nintendo to make sure your system is covered under warranty. There's a sticker on the bottom of the system that can be used to verify warranty status so you don't need the receipt.

I don't have ED yet but I plan to eventually. From what I heard about the burned out GC's, it seems to be mostly limited to GC made in November and December. That's where a number of GC that had read error. Could be quality issue with GC during that timeperiod.
