Default atari 2600 problem please help!

ok so this is my first post, ive been collecting a while and figured i needed to get into a forum to learn more, and i wanna meet people who love vintage games as much as i do!

    ok so now the prob.
i bought an atari 2600, it was fairly dirty, i cleaned it and opened it up, and amazingly the insides were almost spotless. which made me happy.
everything was great for the first week, my atari worked great, until one day i was playing and all of a sudden the screen flashed, and 2 seconds later my screen went to a black and white fuzzy signal, i could still play the game, but there was lots and lots of "snow" static hendering the picture.
and ever since then, i can turn it on, the first 5 minutes are great, then the problem re occurs, fail proof everytime, also if i jiggle the on/off switch the problem goes away, then happens again, after about the fifth time of jiggling it stays static and wont revert to correct.

please someone give me a hint as to how to fix this problem!!!

Im sure that someone else will have a better suggestion, but I would guess that you have a loose solder joint. Its probably separating when it heats up, and thats why it takes 5 minutes before something happens. If I were you I would open up the Atari again and check for a cracked solder or loose connection of any kind.

Clean the power switch, and re solder it to the board.
