5200/C64 Bounty Bob Strikes Back info needed

At CGE I bought what was advertised as an Atari 5200 Bounty Bob Strikes Back empty box w/manual. It turns out it is the Commodore 64 disk version. The box is exactly the same ( I assume it had a sticker that has been removed) and the poster is the same but has a sticker on it with the C64 directions. It also includes the disk and some other paperwork. I was wondering if anyone knows how common the C64 version is. I found this website selling them for $99.95 (the same price I paid):

Is there a source for these at a lower price? I don't collect for Commodore 64 and I certainly wouldn't normally pay $100 for a C64 disk game. Anyone know the ebay price for one of these? I'm not getting rid of it I'm just curious.

The Games Plus here kicks ass. I just got the Atari 5200 version of Bounty Bob there.

How did this happen, if I can ask? It could be just me, cause I don't know what it looks like, but are you saying a 5200 sticker was over the C64 one and the person you bought it from, as well as you, thought it was the 5200 one? I hope you did'nt get ripped off on purpose.

The box is large and the box insert has a spot for what appears to be Atari 8-bit and Atari 5200. "Atari 5200" is printed on the box. I'm pretty sure they just used that box for C64, 5200, and Atari computer. I assume there was some kind of sticker on the shrinkwrap or box itself if what was inside was not a 5200 cart. The seller at CGE offered it as an empty box with manual. I was surprised to see the C64 disk in there. If the disk was missing and there wasn't a sticker on the map/instructions I would never have suspected it was the C64 version. I have removed the sticker and I put it with the disk and another C64 instruction sheet that came with it. These items will be added to my trade pile and I will try not to think about it anymore. Now I have a nice Bounty Bob Strikes Back empty box and a map with some sticker residue on it. I just need the damn cart. I just thought maybe there was a hoard of these things somewhere and I paid way too much.

I don't think anyone else had this bonus item of the C64 disk from their purchase at the show, and spoke of it.

It's possible, since the seller did find a pile of stuff by this manu at a flea, that he assumed they were all the same and didn't take a closer look. Perhaps you could exchange the box with him if you aren't happy with it. I would have imagined that the issue should have come up at the show, had we taken a closer look at his stock, but I didn't. Now you have me wondering about my box. I chose one without shrinkwrap because that stuff just irritates me to remove, when I might have wanted to flatten it or something. I don't remember there being any question in my mind what it was for.

Given the crash and the slower petering out of classic comps like C64, it wouldn't surprise me if the company resused the 5200 boxes post-crash- probably this is what was done.

Hell, that's probaly what happened with almost 100 percent certinity....the Commodore remained popular as a gaming computer well into the 1990's. Activision survived by going over to computers only. I'm sure many companies recycled their stock.

Any chance of pics Ybot? I haven't actually SEEN the C64 disk version BBSB in a very long time (indeed, I believe I only know one person besides yourself with a copy). And yes I actually would be interested if you figure you didn't want it...

I have known for years that the C64 and 5200 version shared the same box. I used to do searches for the c64 version because I wanted the box but I just gave up because I could never find one.

Rarity for C-64 games is pretty hard to judge. I've never even seen a complete list of games for the C-64 much less a rarity list. I've made a couple attempts at listing all C-64 games and I've never ran across BBSB for the C-64 either in original or pirated form. Does that make it rare? Maybe. There could have been a cartridge and/or datasette version of it as well as a disk version.

Relax.....the box and poster are identical for both the 5200 and the C64----only the stickers were added to the Commodore version. After the "crash", Big Five just used the remaining iinventory of 5200 boxes & posters for the Commodore one. In fact, if you go to the Atariage website and look at the pic of the poster(manual), you'll notice in the left hand corner(if you look hard) that a sticker has been removed and also if you look at the box, you'll see a sticker has been torn off (and damaged the box). So, if you're able to find one of these boxes and poster----it is the real deal, but be careful removing the stickers to avoid damage.

BBSB is quite common here in the UK on tape. It's the disk version from the US I've not seen much (in same box as noted as the 5200 version).

I bought one on Friday night like Ian. My box clearly states on the bottom and top edge: "for use on Atari 5200" and it's printed into the box. If it was used for the C64, I have no clue. Just sharing my finding from my box.

@Darth Vader-does your box have the shrinkwrap on it? Mine was open at the bottom and the 5200 cart has to come out through the top.


Mine has "Atari 5200" printed on the box also. I'll bet they just put a sticker on the box or shrinkwrap for C64 and Atari 8-bit.

Of course that's my problem too, 99% of my C64 collection WAS pirated, so it's tough to know if things are/were rare or not.
