Ahhh. I can't believe it's been a year since I scored the best dig of my internet career.
September 6, 2003. 10:41 PM.
Saturday night.
Plans.
Cancelled.
Homework.
Postponed.
Life.
Halted.
I was situated firmly and ready to do my thing.
I entered my bid...
*loading*
"Oh please, come on!" I thought.
Congratulations! You are the leading bidder!
When I hit refresh, the auction ended.
I had won.
29 issue lot of the wicked SEGA SATURN MAGAZINE.
Sure it set me back $225. But the 2 year search ended. The legacy that is better known as "SSM" to its devoted fans, finally in my grasp. *lets out evil laughter*
OK.
Let's cut the uber fanboy "comic book guy from the Simpsons" talk.
The magazine is truly awesome, and I have no regrets in paying that much. The guy I beat out, was sort of my "eternal rival" in that he also wanted those magazines, and we had battled each other for an auction or two of SSM in the past... (why he's GFAQs' very own Gameofyou)
I remember when I won the set I just sat there with my jaw dropped.
I never thought I'd see myself owning those mags ever. What happened was, in late August 2003 I read a thread created from an international Saturn fan who was willing to scan reviews of Saturn games through SSM. That thread re-ignited my passion to hunt down SSM. You see, 2 years turned out failure. It was rare that a lot of SSM issues came along in those 2 years I searched. When it did, it was either something like 11 issues, 8 issues, or one issue auctions. Gross.
I had given up. Until I saw the review scans that blew me away. So I conducted a search on eBay for SSM and wow holy mother of sweetness... 29 issue lot with 4 days to go.
On September 6th, I situated my behind at the keyboard and waited. Entered my max bid (which was $311 I recalled). It was an Australian seller. Our very own SkylineR32!
Sadly, SSM is rare and expensive. In the one year since I won it, I haven't seen one nice lot auction of it. The issues I got were also kept in awesome condition. It's a holy grail for this collector/gamer, and in the coming months I'll copy an article or two from SSM to share with you all some of their greatness.
I also created what was considered by some posters at NG.com as one of the finest threads in N-G history: SSM's Top 50 SEGA Saturn Games list. To today's count, this thread saw over 115 replies and has received a smashing 2,700+ view count. It blows my mind how successful that thread was, but like SSM itself, it's a great showpiece of Saturn history and yore...

As I wrap this up it's about 10:41 PM now. One year. Pinch me. Be on the lookout in the coming months! I'll copy some showcases/previews they wrote. Depends on the time I have. Thanks for reading and have a good night.
