    Default XBox Wireless?

Will the XBox pick up a signal from a wireless router?

I just moved into a new apartment and I'll be getting a new wireless Linksys router so that all three of us can use my modem -- some will connect with wires, and some wireless. But the XBox is VERY far away from the modem in this apartment. Can the Xbox pick up the signal from the modem?

    i dont see why not.

The Xbox is basically a PC, and its wireless network adapter is... well basically the same.

walmart actually sells a wireless adaptor that will work on the XBox or PS2, for around 45 dollars, all you have to do is set the proper wireless channel, I think it also will use encryption al well.

There is REALLY no need to spend $110 on the "official" XBOX wireless bridge. Any wireless bridge will do, as long as it will work with your router. Once you configure the bridge (I used my laptop for that) the XBOX doesn't know how it's connected, and it won't care either. I'm using the linksys WET11 which is only a B bridge, but that's faster than the cable modem anyway so it doesn't affect gameplay one bit.

My wireless router is downstairs, and my xbox is upstairs on the other side of the house, and most times it works perfectly. And when it's kinda laggy, I think it's more Ameritech's DSL service to blame than the wireless.

I went the other rout and put an 802.11g card in my PC and moved the router and modem into the room with my game consoles. Now, the Xbox is flawless and my pC is pretty good. Though I do get the occasional rubberband effect in City Of Heroes. I'm going to look into getting a better antenna for my card, maybe one on a wire so I can put it atop the PC.

I have the linksys usb2.0 wireless adapter, and it works very well, and my pc is just about as far from the router as my xbox.

When I picked up my first party adapter when it first came out, it wasn't that much more expensive, as opposed to now. Seriously though, it's much cooler to have the "official" adapter because now it's not just an annoying gadget cluttering a shelf, it's part of my COLLECTION. And anything that's part of my COLLECTION makes me feel good.

Well it may cost 99 for the official xbox bridge, but I got mine from amazon a couple months back for 59. anyways stick the disc in your box, and about 2 minutes later mine was up and running. you don't have to go official , but it was a breeze to set up.

I was just trying to make sure all the options were out there. For some of us that's big money. Well, now that I'm married it is anyway.
