Default Original Game Boy screen trouble

I've seen this happen a few times (and the search feature on the boards seems to be down, so forgivness please if this is a repeat). I picked up a GB at a garage sale and the sides of the screen is being cropped by yellow "lines/bars." Most games can't be played, though simple stuff like Tetris is generally not a problem. You can't see through them or anything, they are entirely solid and only appear when a game is played. You cannot see them when the system is off. Is this fixable?

Well... It may be that the flexable connecting doohickys have loosened/delaminated from their connections to the board/screen. If you're the type of person that would pay for surgery on a hamster, then yes it may be possible. Otherwise... I'd just forget it and find a new one. Don't feel bad about flushing it down the toilet, it's going to Game Boy heaven where it can run around with all the other Game Boys.

At least, I think the GB uses those flex connectors to attach the screen to the board. It's been some time since I opened one up.

Yes, doohicky is the proper term.

Ah well. I figured this wasn't easily fixed. Thanks!

And they can all adjust their contrast together, in harmony.
