Depends on what game it is..

If it's something I really want..been looking forward to,then I buy it on release day.
New Systems I usually buy on release day.

Otherwise I wait for a price drop/sold cheaper somewhere or ..buy it cheaper Used.

Sometimes I buy games on release (pre-ordered) if it is something I really like and it has a cool gift

Movies I like I always get release week because they are cheaper.

Depends on the item. I usually don't buy games or CD's when they are first released unless it's something I really want, but I almost always buy DVD's I want on release day, with the exception of Star Wars.

It depends. I usually only get the games I really look forward to on release day. Otherwise, I just get them soon after or when their prices drop.

I don't really buy ANYTHING on release day anymore. Sometimes a final fantasy game, or (god forbid) a dragon warrior game.
Everquest 2 I have pre-ordered, but MMORPGS are a different realm all together.

My breaking point is $20. I have an ongoing list of games I will get when I can get them (used, ebay, or new) for $20 or less. The only other exceptions are games that are becoming rare...
Disgaea, Skies of Arcadia, Tales of symphonia.... Pretty much any gamecube RPG, and most atlus releases actually

I buy a lot of games on release day, but that's only because I'm an impatient bastard.

I do with CD's, if it's something I want and on sale for a cheap price. With games, I have more than enough to play through until a price drop (although GTA San Andreas will be a rare exception to this).

Never. I buy whatever peaks my interest at the moment, and whenever I can get it for a good price. With cds, that's always release day but there is never a cd or game that I must go out for on release day and pick up immediately.
