well, I push it down and I hear the click and that little piece slides over (I have the top off) and then it just come back up like whe you are taking the game out. It stuck down twice out of about 50 tries.
Any ideas?

there is a little wire thingy that holds the tray down. It catches on a white plastic "catch". I have used tissue paper and rammed it up on the catch and it worked for me. I am sorry to use redneck jargin, I am not a very technical person.

Yup pretty simple contraption , just take the thing apart and take a look at it. Should be easy to fix with something around the home.Originally Posted by swlovinist
Did you adjust the screws on the tray loader that hold it down to the motherboard? If you screwed them back in too tight it will make seating the tray more difficult. I assume you tinkered around in there to replace the 72-pin connector.
I have a few spare spring loading trays also, if that doesn't help, they're in good shape.
actually someone else replaced the 72pin for me and sent me the nes all fixed up for free. Everything for free It just came in the mail today.
So, I should take off the metal case over the tray and loosen the screws in the tray?
Just to test it?
I don't understand what that little metal piece is supposed to catch on? Is there supposed to be a groove in the little white plastic thing that it clicks over through?
sorry for the rookie questions...but I have never opened a nes before.
My NES tray won't go down after I fixed it, but I just hook it up to the Game Genie, and it works 8 out of 10 times.
well...I got it to stay down. I have to push it down fast, and it sticks. I hope that doesn't cause wear on something. I will try the tissue thing though
thanks guys!
nevermind...it still comes up too far. I have to wedge another game in there to get it to work right

Don't be shy. Open up the deck and remove the top shielding until you get to this point, then slightly loosen each screw I've circled in red. Test it out as you go along, should get back to normal after some adjustment. It amuses the great elder sausage to hear tales of enthusiasm of the young and their tightening of all screws.
he speaks the truth, when i replaced mine, i had the same problem, i tightened them up too much.Originally Posted by Bratwurst

Though I learned something..I never knew could fix this by tightening the screws.
I may have put them to tight.
