Default Poll - Enter Your Own Choice

Don't know if this has been done before (probably has) but what one year would you classify the best in videogaming history. we're talking about arcade/consoles/computer games.

    For me it was close but I think i'd have to say 1982, the year we were introduced to;

    Mr Do
    Moon Patrol
    Ladybug
    Pole Position
    Q*bert
    Tron
    Xevious
    Zaxxon
    Robotron
    and Zookeeper

    Not to mention

    Colecovision and the Atari 5200

I'd have to say that's a pretty good year for games. Personaly my favorite is either 85 or 86 when the NES system was released. While it was far from my first system, it was the first one which I was able to support to any degree. The launch titles were great, and except for the ROB stuff, was nice. That was the year for gaming for me.

Can't say it's '82 because I wasn't born yet, and therefore didn't live through the releases and experience of it.

I know many would disagree with me, but it would be 1997 because it was when I got introduced to emulation on computers. It was a new world for me and gave me the chance to play consule and arcade games on the PC that I never got a chance to see. Since I was 13yrs old and had no game system it was my only link to anything video game, and it broke me into gaming. It wasn't until I got my first job that I finally was able to purchase the games I once played at friends houses and on emulators.

Hmmm…I have to say 1991. The release of the SNES and some great launch titles like Final Fantasy II, Super Mario World, Super Castlevania IV, UN Squadron and F-Zero. To me, the SNES would dominate the next 5 years of my life and produce some of the best titles ever made on any console.

Then there’s the launch of Street Fighter II (arcade, need I say more about the importance of that one?), Sonic the Hedgehog and Zelda A Link to the Past in Japan…..

    A good year…

I think 1995 stood out for me the most. It was less about quality and more about the sheer volume of silly crap that was being talked about. Crazy japanese systems pending release (my favorite being the Playdia) and all the ultra-gory MK ripoff games like BloodStorm.

Have to side with the OP here; 1982 was just a great year if you're into classics. Let's not forget that Tron was released in '82!

If I had to pick a personal year it would probably be 1995. I'd just discovered that there was a classic gaming "scene" out there and 1995 was the first year I really started collecting video games. Lots of great finds were still available in the wild back then. It was a wonderful time when I was finally reunited with the Atari 2600 and Odyssey2 after a nearly 10-year separation.

    Default 1991

1991 for many reasons. I know that some will laugh, but the Nes was still going strong, the Genesis was in its prime, and the Snes was just released. Also the Game Boy was going against the Lynx and turbo Express. You also had the Turbo Grafx(even though it was not doing well) and the Neo Geo still found at Toys R US at clearance prices. Sign me up, those were the days!
