    Default Nintendo DS hands-on review

Over at IGN they have been playing with the DS at the Seattle Nintendo bash. Here is the URL:

    http://ds.ign.com/

Sounds quite promising, although no real surprises. Still no mention of true wifi internet gaming...but there is a rumour that you will be able to download movies and music.

    Gamespot has some info too.

I found this little tid bit interesting from the DS hands-on article.
When you power up the system you'll be rewarded by a zippy boot sequence that's simple and along the same lines as the GBA's, although with a new logo and sound effect. Games come up pretty quickly after you get through the welcome screen and set some personal information to tie the unit to you and your geographical region.
    your geographical region?

    What's that all about?

Hopefully not for region lockout...that would be devastating since I've already preordered my DS on the presumption that I could buy domestically released titles once Europe gets a H/W release. *crosses fingers*

Maybe for european games? Like if you set your system to France, the game might start off in French. Just a wild guess.

I'm hoping it's for the hoped-for wi-fi internet connection. So that you can connect to local servers or something similar. Nintendo have alluded to downloadable content such as game demos so maybe it's got something to do with that...I suppose at the mo it's all just vain speculation.

I was kinda hoping for the same thing but it could also be used to set the system clock and/or lang settings.

Wi-Fi, choose your region? Sounds like it's used for purposes of setting up an internet connection to me.

Here's hoping! I mentioned it in another thread the other day but I just have to say again - How cool would Animal Crossing DS be if it was a perpetual online world? And Mario 64 DS...

Supposedly the DS has support for 7 different languages (especially with Pictochat) so that might be a reason. Plus it might support some sort of internal clock for all we know (hell, the NGPC did and that's 5 years old!).
