the genesis had some really good fighters, 2 Street fighters, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombats, somehow playing Eternal Champions in the face of such greatness was insane, for me at least.
I thought EC was way better than Mortal Kombat anyway. Collision needed some work, and the animations felt a little off, but it was certainly a hell of a lot deeper than 90% of the other fighting game garbage (originals or crappy ports) to come out for the Genesis.
Of the two, the Sega CD version suffered from some load time problems, but the additional characters and lots of additional moves / secrets more than made up for it.
Any game where you can fight as a chicken is ok by me.
i own the 1 for genesis and used to have it for sega cd. the sega cd version was awesome in comparison to the genesis version. it is just too bad that even on easy, the game was super hard. i have only beaten this game with some voodoo chick that was on the sega cd version, because she did some spinning kick that i could do over and over and nevet get hit because i was hitting them.
Sega CD was LEAGUES better. Competitively, the Sega CD one was a great game, and casually, it had sweet as hell fatalities that the Genesis one lacked. The extra fighters are worth noting, too.

Infinite Lives
I always enjoyed them both, but the Sega CD was more fun.

Neither one... although I may not have given it enough of a chance as I only played it for a few minutes.
Egbert, I miss you...
The Genesis game is really flawed and isn't very much fun to me. By "flawed", I mean its whole fighting engine is poor and counter productive to fun. Almost all the moves require charging; the best moves require a nearly full yinyang meter. But the other player just has to call you a name ("pig!") to obliterate your yinyang meter! And there are hardly any combos. The graphics are pretty sweet for Genesis though -- large, multi-jointed characters.
The Sega CD one is so much better -- if you have only experienced the Genny version, I can understand it if you think EC is crap. The CD version of course has CD-goodies like over 20 characters, all completely unique, and 4 types of end moves and some decent FMV cinemas, plus pretty kickin' rave tunes. But most importantly, the fighting action was completely revised and much improved.
It still is not up to the Street Fighter engine, but in its own way it is quite satisfying. I loved unlocking everything -- had to use a usenet FAQ back in those days of the early 90's.
I personally think that Eternal Champions has one of the coolest backstories to any fighting game. The Eternal Champion selects the best warriors and fighters from various ages of time to battle to be the new Eternal Champion. Each was pulled right before his or her death.

Time Killers has nearly the same story. It's even up on GameFAQs I think. But, uh, you probably shouldn't play Time Killers...Originally Posted by Cafeman
