Prototype C64 cart?
Apologies if anybody here is bidding on this (and for flooding Insanity today :P). Sub-20 minutes as I write this - sort of hope somebody here will get if if they're interested.

Personally, I think it could just be an EEPROM cart that nobody used, and might be well nigh worthless, but then again...maybe it's got something interesting on it. Actually, even an EEPROM cart should be rather hard to find for the C64.

Strictly speaking, could even be a cart with the label ripped off for all I know about the C64.

Looks like standard C64 cart casing to me minus label. Why the seller decided not to post pictures of the actual eproms & label, I no understand. That era of classic computer carts, it's not uncommon to find production carts with eproms in them. Epyx did it often. HESware (i think?) with Pharaohs's Curse, and others, lots of ultility type software produced in smaller numbers by 3rd parties, there are many carts around with eproms inside.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if you're 100% correct :)
Let's sit back and see how far this goes, then.

Looks interesting, but without any pictures or documentation, it's kinda hard to prove it's a prototype. His word, I guess.

He's basically saying he doesn't know what it is. Demo could be used in place of proto. Also preview or loaners. It doesn't really add anything of value to this cart. He doesn't have a label & it isn't tested or known, so it's just a labelless eprom cart for C64.Originally Posted by Ed Oscuro

I've seen auctions for regular production boards out of their cases before that are labeled protos on ebay, which are nothing more than a loose pcb out of a common cart. Maybe standard production roms inside with labels on them. I've opened carts, AVE Nes carts for example, where they had the roms marked with labels, but they were on top of roms not eproms. Standard production cart. Could be an uneducated seller posting what he thinks he has, but without a pic to tell, I wouldn't spend much on it.
Who knows, maybe that's a Atarisoft Crystal Castles pcb inside a Commodore case, and it's uber rare cart!!!!!111 Someone just got deal!!

Well, if it's big, we'll eventually hear about it.
Now the seller did say there's no Commodore logo on the cart.
Finally...sorry for springing this on the forums so late, folks, hope I didn't induce anybody to make an impulse bid :P
