    Default Phantasy Star Online

Okay, I heard about this game for quite a while, and never really thought about getting it. Now, I recently heard its a MULTIPLAYER RPG!!! does that mean more than 1 people playing on the same tv in the same room(not over the internet)playing an RPG at the same time???
Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.

The new GC version has multiplayer offline - as in split screen action, 2-4 players at once. Of course the online aspect was always multiplayer, up to 4 people in one "room" together going thru the adventures.

I must say, I'm really not THAT impressed with the split screen feature..
Other than it being handy to have someone RIGHT there to play with you, rather than having to meet up with someone online, I wouldn't rate it very high. You lose a few of the features you come to depend on in the single mode of playing the game, ie your MAP and RADAR!!! Yeesh!

! How true POG - but you forget the best feature of the split screen...

it stops the kids from whining when I say I want to play, because now they can play with me!

On thing to take note of, GS, is that "RPG" is kind of a loose fitting term. You do create a character, fight battles, and level up, and there is a storyline that you follow, but there are no cinematic cut scenes, or major plot twists or opera scenes for that matter. It is an RPG in the same way that Everquest is an RPG (but it is NOT an EQ clone). If you think about it in Final Fantasy terms, the game is basically broken up into two areas, the "town" area and the "overworld/dungeon" area. There is only the one "town" area, where you can talk to people, buy stuff, and learn about the world. the "overworld/dungeon" area always works like a dungeon in that it is broken up into rooms/areas where you must defeat all the enemies or activate a switch to open the next door, or you much search for an item/person/monster.

You can think of each room/area as a battle. you enter the area and monsters appear. you can fight them (zelda style, btw) or continue on to the next area, but often the game will force you to fight them. Your reason for fighting is a guild that is in the "town" area where people pay you to do things, but you can also enter the "overworld/dungeon" just to explore, and when you do, you will eventually come across a boss battle. In the same way that FFX has no overworld map, neither does this game. Multiplayer options involve people battling together and sharing the bounty.

It think that about covers it. Anyone care to add or clarify anything?
