    Default Sega Genesis Controller Manual

Hope someone out there can help...

I have a customer who is looking for a manual for the Sega Genesis and how to use it. Honestly, I can't say I have ever seen anything (and I stock ALOT of Genesis stuff.)

If there is no manual, he is wondering if there is a picture of someone holding the controller. He is being very specific, but won't share the reason.

Thought someone out there might have a manual (if it exists, honestly, how hard is a controller to figure out!) or a picture they could attach so I can help this guy.

Thanks in advance for the support!

If the guy can't figure out how to hold a Genesis controller, he doesn't have much business playing video games.

I still have the documentation that came with my 6-button Sega Genesis controller, I don't think it shows anything other than a simple line drawing of the pad, no hands, etc. Just get a scan from a Genny game manual, they always have one (gamepad illustration) inside.

    Default Genesis Controller

I have a boxed original controller as well, but no manual... i honestly don't think it comes with one.

This guy is an attorney and needs it for something.... I didn't ask too many questions, I honestly don't want to know.

    but it is kinda funny!

Could you just take a picture holding the controller? Or since it's for some legal use does it HAVE to be official?

    This is SupperShark.

I collect Sega items myself and happen to have a manual for an official Sega 6-Button Arcade Pad.

However, it dose not contain a photo of somebody holding the controller. Just a drawing of the controller itself.

If you would still like a scan for this, please post your e-mail adress and I shall scan and e-mail this to you.

    Hope I helped.[/img]

i think youd have more luck looking at a sega ad or on the back of the box the system came in.

The 6 button control pads are the only ones that ever came with a manual. The instructions for the 3 button control pads were usually printed in the manuals for all the games. If there's any illustrations for how to hold them, it's probably in the Genesis owner's manual, but I don't remember seeing it.

Default The whole story on WHY this guys needs the Genesis Manual

I had shied away from asking my customer this question directly, but he ended up telling me anyway, interesting read and future product.

    from my customer:

    "Jay,

You guys are great. I guess it does sound a little funny to ask about the
Sega controller. Possibly the 6 button material or the box scan would be
helpful. I guess I should let you all in on what this is all about. I am an
inventor and have four patents on ergonomic data entry devices. The most
advanced of which may well be shown at the C.E.S. in January. It is at:
    http://www.xkeymobile.com

The Motionless Keyboard Company and I have a patent infringement case in
progress against Microsoft for the SideWinder controllers, Saitek for the
Cyborg and other controllers and Nokia is involved as well for specific
    cellular phones.

Nokia has forwarded the Sega Genesis controller as a device that can be
operated with one hand (not ever intended to be used that way as far as I
know) and that a person would use it with the thumb tip and thumb joint on
the left hand directional pad. This is forwarded to prove that my patent is
invalid as a defense for their infringing my patents. So what I was looking
for was any documentation that supported what is the truth as I know it and
that is that it is a two hand operated device period and that the thumb tip
is used for the directional pad.

This is why the laughable questions. Any scan that might be available or
even the 6 button instructions might help. I guess it is a little silly to
ask but this is why. I figure at least I should tell you why I was asking.
Any documentation or promotional materials along the lines of what I need
    would be appreciated.

If the Judge buys the Nokia story I will lose my company and over twenty
years of work. I am leaving no stone unturned to maintain the integrity of
    my patents."

I did check the site and this guy's story (I edited the above to keep identity safe) all checks out... kinda a neat device! Thanks for any help or scans you can provide. You can send them to my comapny mailbox at jay@j2games.com.

I don't know who's hands Nokia is using to show the Genny controller as a one-handed device....but I've tried and it's damned near impossible. In order to have my index finger reach the 3 buttons, I have to hold the controller sideways and have my palm on the D-pad. Any judge who tries this demonstration in court and finds it to be the correct way to hold the controller needs to be sent on a vacation.

Why doesn't this lawyer contact Sega and ask for confirmation on the correct usage of the Genesis controller? He wishes to leave "no stone unturned". Get the info straight from the horse's mouth.

Suing Microsoft for the Sidewinder? I LOVE my Sidewinder! And Microsoft is'nt even MAKING them anymore. Did he tell you any reason why they are suing a big company and risky everything?

And yeah, if you can't find any documention, contact Sega and ask if they have anything on hand. Failing that, just bring a controller with you to the court case.

Find some offical sega commercials that show kids using two hands with it. Its just a common sense thing, they don't give you pictoral diagrams of how you put one shoe on each foot. You don't see anyone walking around with two shoes on the same foot.

    Default hmmmm

hmmm, never heard it referred to as a phone before...

    but hey, whatever!

Latest update from the guy looking for Genesis Controller Manual or pictures for his lawsuit is:

He is greatly appreciative of all of our support and anyone on this thread will be given the opportunity to acquire one of his keyboards for dirt cheap (now, I don't know what dirt cheap means, but it's a nice gesture for our help!)

    I will keep you posted.

I'm sure the ergonomics designer at sega could testify that it was shapped to be cupped with two hands as well.
