Extra dollar for shipping?

Auction is for 3 Sega Genesis games.

Shipping is $5. Then below that it reads:

"NOTE: If you are from AZ, UT, ID, NV, CA, OR or WA Please add an extra dollar to the listed shipping price."

Is there a logical reason for this that I'm missing?

those states are all in the western shipping zone. If you are sending it parcel post or priority mail it costs more to ship across the US then it does to ship from, say, Flordia to Louisiana.

The reason is that it takes more effort to get the mail accross the mountians. I think that would be the Rocky Mountians? But that is most likely the reason. Most of the time shipping is listed high enough to cover such charges. :/

Really? I had no idea shipping varied according to distance. I guess I never really noticed before!
