Default Platinum Hits/Greatest Hits/Player's Choice Requirements?

Does anyone know what the requirements are for games to go Greatest Hits, Platinum Hits, and Players Choice?

I seem to recall that it was one million units sold, but I can't find any evidence to back that up.

If memory serves me, I believe the current Player's Choice requires 600,000 units sold and at least a year on the market. I could be wrong though.

For GC, it's a million sold. Don't know about how many years wise though, if any.

By looking at the PSX GH list you'd swear the only requirment was the game had to be published by Square. :P

Yes for PSX it seems that some games were published as greatest hits even though they didn't meet the criteria for GH games.

How do you know that? What are the requirements and how can you tell if a game hasn't met them? I'm really curious!

Square games sell really well, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't meet the requirements. Hell I know Final Fantasy has such a reputation that several Non-RPG players have bought it, didn't like it and traded it in because of all the talk.

I don't know about the Square games, but I definitely know that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night did not meet the so-called "requirement". I forget what exactly the requirement was, though. :/

From what I understood Castlevania Symphony was difficult to find because of the way it was released.... It $45 used until it was re-released...

    Demand?

Some games were most likely granted re-release GH status immedately because of what they were. FF:Tactics and Castlevania:SotN had good release runs, but i dont think they made the original release requirement. However when you are allowed a GH status release, the developer/publisher royalty fees are signifigantly dropped, which tends to sell some games better because of the lowered price point, so SCEA ends up making more in the long run.

The PSOne when it was "THE" Sony system also had a year time requirement, but with the PS2 now the driving system for SCEA, as long as a game drives demand for systems (something that FF:T or C:SotN can easily do) they will allow that coveted GH status.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

As others mentioned CSotN didn't, and FF:T as well. PapaStu explains it better than I can.
