Default Did anyone have trouble setting up their Xbox Live?

I got the Live box months and months and months ago - like over a year, but only now just got around to setting it up. It says it can't find a connection. I've gone through dozens of trouble shooting things - nothing. I think it has to do with the fact that it is SBC Yahoo DSL and that the Xbox can't recognize that I am actually online because the line is no longer connected to the modem. But I don't know.

Anyone have this problem? Does Microsoft even offer telephone support for this problem?

    Thanks.

Are you saying the line that connects to your Xbox isn't connected to your modem? That needs to be plugged into your modem (or router) for Live to work.

If you mean you disconnected your computer from your modem so you could plug the line from your Xbox in there, that's what you need to do. Xbox has great telephone support, call them and they should be able to help you out. You can also go to your ISP home page and they will probably have a section on Xbox Live connection.

Yes. The modem only has two cables and two inputs. Ordinarily the yellow ethernet cable goes from one end of the modem to the back of the PC and the DSL cable comes from the phone line to the back of the modem. For live, I took the DSL cable out and put it in the back of the Xbox. But this leaves the modem complete unconnected to the Xbox. There is no way to connect the two. I mean, I am guessing I need a router or something - because it is impossible to connect these two with what I have.

Sounds like you are disconnecting the wrong cable. Disconnect the yellow ethernet cable on the back of the modem that your computer is connected to and put the Xbox line in that.

Damn. Thank you so much for pointing out my complete stupidity. I cannot believe it was that easy. I tried to put the ethernet cable in last night but it didn't seem to fit because I didn't hear a click - you know how those cables usually click into place. I didn't even bother to try it.

Well, thanks very much - that worked. I have it up and running now.
