Default genesis - Heavy Unit - any info?

is it rare... fun? I don't know... found it at a flea market today and snagged it cheap (three bucks). I'm not a shmup man so hopefully some of you may know what's up with it.

You found a Japanese MD game at a flea market in NH? Go you!

    Here's some info:

Never played it myself, but it looks decent.

Well I may be mistaken about this, but if I remember correctly, it's VERY rare.

    Nice find!

well, it's not all that incredibly rare (i've had three of them come through here over the years), but given that it's never been released here in the states, it sorta is,

as to the actual quality of the game. if you've NEVER heard of it before, never played the arcade version (in real life or ROM form), or hold any of the other console versions up as superior, it's a fun little shooter you'll probably enjoy. I'd have to argue that almost no company ports a game over to make a "bad" version. like any translation, it exists primarily to gve those with a particular system the opportunity to play it.

I've been typing that games name into Ebay searches fairly often for the last year and have never run across it. Ran across the Sega CD version a lot, but never the megadrive version. Nothing I've read about it made it sound very good, but it is a shmup and therefore is something I hope to find someday.

... you may be confusing toho's heavy unit with micronet's heavy nova. you more likely will want heavy unit, as it's a shooter (mega drive), but you probably don't want heavy nova, as it's a bland mech fighter (genesis, sega cd, pc-engine cd)...
