Are you sure that Nights has a widescreen mode?

    How do you activate it?

I have Nights, and I have widescreen TV's, and it looks just like any other Saturn game on my widescreen tv.

The earliest widescreen game that I know of, is Goldeneye 007 for the N64

I thought the wide screen option in PDZ was an option for the movie play back.

GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo 64. Game looks almost twice as nice, even if you do it on a Regular TV (Change screen size to Cinematic, then Resolution to 16:9 if you have a regular TV... THEN turn off the On Screen Ammo and CrossHairs )

Arcade multi-screen games are darn fine too! Especially Taito's Ninja Warriors, Darius games, and Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga III!

in Nights hit the z button to go into the diary. then look for the option.
i was just looking for consoles and games that hook up to your home tv.
i know a handfull of arcade games that had a wide screen setup.
    but they needed special setups.

Christmas Nights is wide screen also

I know for certain Nights is, if you set in on widescreen and don't have one the image gets all squishy.

I'm almost positive there's a late-release SNES game that has the option. I'd swear I was just playing it a few days ago, but damned if I can remember. I'll have to retrace my steps.

Dammit...you beat me to it. Do'oh!

But when you think about it those Radio Shack LED games were not only the first handheld "videogames," but were also widescreen.

The arcade version of Virtua Racing (ca. 1992) has an option in the operator menu to enable support for widescreen (presumably 16:9) monitors. It's a higher resolution game, so I think it uses a 24 kHz monitor to support the vertical resolution (384 lines, non-interlaced). That's the earliest game I can think of that can use a single widescreen monitor, rather than just multiple normal aspect ratio monitors. I'd get some screenshots, but MAME doesn't exactly handle Model 1 games very well. Heh.
