Default How off guard where you at the MGS-Sons of Liberty Ending?

I am a fan of good video game enders, but this ending seriously messed with my mind for days, this game no matter what you say has to be given respect becauses of what a great game it really is,the story in it is probably the best outside of an RPG in gaming up to this point,I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way?

The ending of Sons of Liberty was fantastic, one of my favorite. In fact, the game itself is one of my favorite this generation - definitely in the top 10. And while I am here, I may be the only person who thinks Raiden is a kickass character - but I really don't care.

I loved the first MGS, and Sons of Liberty blew me away. I bought a PS2 basically just to play it. I have not played another game that good on the PS2; in fact, there really haven't been that many great games in this generation. I liked Metroid Prime, but it was no Super Metroid, and it was certainly no Sons of Liberty.

I loved that ending, too, by the way. I only went through it once, but I'll never forget it. It's amazing. Did anyone else notice that the radar turned into video of some girl with an umbrella or something? I always wanted to figure out what that was all about...

I was really wierded out by the Coronel going insane at the end of the game.
I just started playing MGS 2 over the weekend, I can't wait to finish it again.

Hmmmm I only played through the first 2 hours or so, but I wasn't impressed...maybe I need to go back through and play longer to appreciate it

    Hrm.

I enjoyed the codec madness. That was definitely a nice touch.

But the plot was downright awful. Just too overdone.

Great game, though. Looked great, played great, sounded great... I just wish the plot had been a little less...

...what's the word I'm looking for?

    Oh yeah.

    Insane.

I kinda remember the ending to MGS2 but I beat it when it was still new. I just started playing MGS3 after I beat it i might have to go back and beat MGS2 again.

You know, though, if you want a great plot you probably shouldn't be looking for it in video games (or porno movies, as I used to constantly have to explain to my old roommate....but that's another story. ) As video game plots go, this one tried harder than most, so I'd at least give it that much.

    I respectfully disagree.

Or maybe I should better explain myself.

Perhaps I should've said "As far as video game plots go, MGS 2's was insane." If anything, the game's designers tried to make it TOO much like a movie. A plot's greatness is not soley dependent on the sheer number of plot twists contained within it.

Great game, though. And like I said, the codec malfunction was greatness.

EDIT: I promise to use neither "great" nor "greatness" in any other posts that I may make this week. Sheezus.

I agree with you A Boy. I can't stand the story in MGS 2. It was so boring. Half the game it seemed you were in the codec screen. Everytime something happened the damn codec would go off. MGS 3 fixed all of those problems for me. Overall MGS 3 is a much better game.

MGS3 wins in the story department, but MGS2 plays better, IMO. the game's flow is built around the radar.

MGS2 could have done without a lot of points (i.e. incessant jack/rose whining), and i would have liked it a lot more. however, the gameplay was the best out of the 3, IMO.

...and the codec glitching was the best retro throwback in any game ever.

I could argue the merits of this game for hours, and I've done just that more than any man probably should, so I'm going to gracefully back away from this thread.

If this is indeed the case, Ima have to play MGS3 pronto.

I don't want to come off as some MGS-hater. I LOVE the series. I was more than happy to play through MGS2. I just think that the story kept it from being a perfect 10.

MGS2 proves why American games just aren't as good - Americans are wusses. We stick to our stereotypes, because we're terrified of not looking "cool". We don't have the guts to go absolutely batshit insane. I loved it. It's so refreshing to see somebody just go all-out like that. Americans always hold something back.

But as much as I loved it, MGS3 was better. Just perfect in every way imaginable, as well as some that aren't. Every time I think about the story I discover something new.

    Whew.

    Okay, I'm done now.

The cinemas didn't bother me. Maybe it's because I'm used to RPGs. I only dislike large amounts of story scenes in games like Xenosaga, where they don't really tell you anything particualrly interesting.

MGS2 had a decent plot but a very overdone and all together lackluster ending its still a very good game but MGS3:snake eater is close to perfection as far as the Metal Gear series goes. I never thought that Kojima would be able to top MGS1 but MGS3 is what part 2 should have been in all honesty
