    Default Metal Storm (NES)

The thing I love about being a NES collector is that the game library is huge and I find myself finding great gameswhich Ive never ever played/or heard of before. Metal Storm is the latest one and I have to admit Ive only made it to the 1st boss ( I only downloaded it today).

My first impressions is that it's a really cool shooter. I am really impressed by the background scrolling and the how you can change gravity and play upside down and the way u have to beat the first boss is quite unique.

Anyway Im looking forward to playing through it. Anyonle else a fan of this game? Does it get better/worse?

I never got too terribly deep into it, but yeah, you hit everything. Really unique, but it can get really frustrating with the gravity stuff. You'll switch right into a spike pit. Ugly.

It's a great game. I was surprised at the depth and quality of it, given the point in the NES's history at which it was released. That and the fact that the other IREM games kind of suck.

    Default Metal Storm

Metal Storm is one of my favorite NES games. I played it years ago and was bound and determined to own a copy of my own. Several years later I bought a copy and enjoyed every wonderful minute of it again.

Soon I beat the game and started playing the long-forgotten hard version that's available after one beats the original version. Such good times that game has provided me I cannot word them with justice.

Metal Storm is one of my favourite NES games, plus it's IREM
The top-bottom platforming element was truly original. It causes your brain to warp in an unnatural fashion sometimes, but it's that mind-bending that makes this game so unique. Go pick it up... NES IREM games rarely break the $3 mark at Gamestop. I picked up Image Fight with my copy cost around $5 without a b2g1 sale.

What Irem games, other than 10-yard-fight, sucked? I always thought Irem games on the NES were pretty good. Sure, Kung Fu is limited, but does it really suck? Irem also ported over Spelunker to the Famicom, which is phenomenal.

Metal Storm is great. It even got a Nintendo Power over back in the day, but for whatever reason really never took off in popularity. Either way, it's definitely a fun game, even today. The graphics are impressive as well IMO.

IREM games, save R-Type, have a history of being over-looked... sad really. One of my fav game makers. Oh well, just makes the carts cheaper for me... that's a plus.

I remember renting Metal Storm back in the day and I thought it was great....very overlooked. I also remember screaming at the 4th boss....the hardest one, as I remember it. When I beat it on hard mode, that 4th boss REALLY pissed me off.

Man, I gotta go replay that game!

Metal Storm is obscure only everyone and their mother talks about it on the internet. I guess knowing about it gives you an upperhand over the twenty-somethings at Gamestop that only remember Contra, Super Mario's Bras and Castlevania. Wooo-eee.

Not so fast, Brat. I've never talked about it and never heard anyone talk about it. In fact, I've never even played it. That will change later this evening.

    @Ernster: thanks for the suggestion.

Somebody posted a picture of the box cover somewhere or other a few weeks back, that got me thinking about it. It's definitely sort of game I like. I like Side Arms (no good at it though) and Battle Mania (MD/Genesis), too, but this one's closer to Thexder, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, or Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken.

BTW after beating each boss a second time and blowing up the base, your robot is granted...oh, anyways. It's got a second quest though.

Heh, I beat this game once.

But I should get it in cart form and beat its second quest too. Irem was bursting with innovation when they created this gem.

I love this game. Switching gravity at will kicks ass. I can't think of a single other game that lets you do that. Oh, and I can't shake the feeling that it was some sort of gundam game when it was released in japan. was it?
