i recently got magical drop 3 for saturn, and i have to say, i hate this game. i hate how overpowered certain characters you can play as are, it ruins the game. magical drop 2 was much more balanced and funner because of it.

BLAST AWAY AND GO GO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 is by-and-far the better game in my opinion. I thought the balance was fine, although I think the Saturn version is a bit on the easy side in general. Superb game overall; one of my favorites.
well i think that people like death, the sun, and that jack ass in the hat who hangs upside down are ridiculously overpowered, how am i supposed to compete with somebody like the sun?? ahh screw it, everybody but like 4 people in that game have patterns i hate. i miss being able to play magical drop 2 on my mvs
BLAST AWAY AND GO GO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap. It's been a while.

MD3 is so much better in every way.
I've played the Game Boy Color version too, and it looks decent and plays better than lots of stuff, but still not nearly as smooth as the arcade version.
Hmm. MD2 has much more obviously canned backgrounds and less color overall...it's basically MD3 in washed out mode.
As a fun note, a screenshot of MD3 (Empress and The World, I think) is the first picture listed in Wikipedia's entry for bishoujo games (it was their featured article yesterday; I couldn't pass it up. Interesting tidbits on Koei and some other devs in there too).
I was surprised to learn that it is Magical Drop that was responsible for those ubiquitous bouncy-bouncy anime pics.

I enjoy both, but Money Puzzle Exchanger slaughters them entirely!

I recently got MD and MD 2 for Saturn. I wouldn't otherwise if they weren't going at just $1.49 each!
But yeah, at that price I can't pass and would like to just see the evolution of this unique fast-paced series.
I liked MD III a lot, but recently my GF played it against me and although she's pretty good at puzzlers, I was slaughtering her in like 10 seconds!
I'm serious, some matches barely lasted 10 seconds. I was a little turned off at this ... before I had always played the CPU.
I guess I'll have to do some more "research"....
bump, i know some more people here can vote on this !

Yes, I like Magical Drop 2 more, but not much more. Just the thing about it's more balanced. Although I do like the story mode and the nice variety of characters in 3. Very cool.
I've never played any Magical Drop game but 2. However, even though I like it a lot, it is TOTALLY unbalanced. Basically the further the character is to the right on the character select scene, the better he/she will be to play as and the harder he/she will be to fight. Even if you do pick one of the strongest characters, you still get immediately slaughtered at the end by the bosses. I actually bought the game on MVS for my boyfriend last Christmas, but I think I've played it more. Not because I'm so crazy for puzzles games, but just because the game intimidates him so much (and he can take all those insanely difficult old-school Neo Geo fighters). He's scared to play me too, even though I have my ass kicked by the AI on the standard difficulty. o_O
I prefer 3,.....the emperess is hot !
