No, you don't understand what I am saying. The ROMs are COPYRIGHTED; you cannot freely distribute them. The ruling only applies to cracking copyright protection on software you already own.

Unless a game is produced before the Bern Convention was adopted by the U.S., a company doesn't even need to post a copyright notice on their software to be able to enjoy the right to copy (copyright is just that, you know).

The difference between "Copy protection" and "Copyright" is very significant.

It's like beating a dead horse.

If people want an exuse to do something illegal or wrong , they will find one. And they'll spout off a lot of BS to justify it.

And then as they are being dragged kicking and screaming to jail, or a courthouse, they'll still try to justify it.

Yes I am aware of the differences. There is also a difference between what is legal and what is not illegal..

That amendment was mainly designed to prevent obsolete archives of copyrighted material from being lost. Thankfully so if I wanted to buy an arcade style mame cabinet to be able to play altered beast or shinobi (the 2 system 16 boards I own) I can.

Looks like eBay finally pulled it.

One other thing that gets me is how can they sell the super power play 76000 in one joystick on ebay and like my Mother in law paid $49.99 for it at the mall when it is 76 different pirated NES games.
The don't allow multi-carts so how can they allow that? I thought Nintendo always went after those. I wonder if nintendo gets kickbacks?

You can legally build a MAME machine to play the games you actually own the boards to, but technically you're supposed to dump the boards you have, not download some else's dump.

Big difference between owning one yourself and telling everybody they can do it, too! :P

They've brought a legal action within the last few weeks against a group out in Seattle, I believe. So yes, they're definitely going after those groups.

Unfortunately, I think they're getting slower just because there are so many of them now.

Can anyone give a re-cap on what the auction was. Even though this thread has gone off in a different direction, the link points to an invalid item. :/
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

The auction said, "I'm selling 200 PS2 backups." Then it had a picture of original games and it said, "you won't be getting original games, pay no attention to these pictures, you'll be getting 200 CDR's on two spindles."

Now that is blatent. I didn't even think that there was 200 different PS2 games that were on the CD media. I kinda thought that most of them were DVD disks.

Movies were made lower quality? Are they just stored on the CD-R (RARed or ZIPped)? Hmm, interesting.

Movies ripped out, music ripped out , etc.....

But hey, for some people all that matters is playing the game for for free and not having to D-Load 5 gigs....
