Default Forgotten quality addition built in to the Sega Saturn.

    Greetings Programs.

    I am talking about Karaoke

It's so nice to be able to embarass myself in front of my wife and kids instead of down at the local bar.

Now a dumb question. Do any of the modern consoles play the old CD+G format?

    end of line

she bangs she bangs OooOoOooo baby she moves OoOo baby ... sorry..

    nope... its sad aint it,

    these did

    Philips CDI
    Sega Saturn
I think the mega CD did also, but not sure.

    Play station 1,2
    Xbox
    Gamecube
Dreamcast... you think sega would have kept the feature in..

    definately dont suport CD+G..

though any that are VCD compatible will have a lot of coice of VCD karaoke disks (if you dont mind constant footage of some tiawan woman walking in a park..

weird as karaoke is a lot bigger now than it was in the 90's

I doubt it. In fact, I think the Saturn was the only console that could do this.

EDIT: Well, forgot about the CD-i. Did the 3DO have karaoke support?

The SegaCD does support CG+G but sometimes you have to set up the channels to display correctly for Karaoke. Rock Paintings which is a CD+G starts itself automatically.

I have seen an import karaoke addition for the Dreamcast. I wonder if this is a software viewer like the VCD player..

The PC Engine CD does, and I'm sure the Turbo Grafx CD does as well.

Ooh--crazy console weirdness! I had always wondered what that CD+G thing was that came up when playing CDs on my Saturn. So how do I go about doing this Saturn karaoke thing? (My google skills have failed me.)

Add the Amiga CD32 to the list of CD+G compatible consoles.

Also, the Laseractive had a special Karaoke module.

Throw a karaoke CD in your saturn and start the CD and then hide the buttons.

Or do you have to switch to the advanced menu buttons first and turn something on? I forget.

a side note. I made a copy( using nero ) of a karaoke disk so my daughter could play it in her CD without worrying about it. And the CDR does not have the graphics. Anybody know how to copy a CD+G?

    Thanks

So you just buy a special karaoke CD, and that has the music and the video with the words and the bouncing ball and everything, eh?

But what about the microphone? Is there a microphone that you plug into the Saturn, or do you just sing into a microphone plugged into your boom box while the music plays through your TV or something like that?

The JVC X'eye has a karaoke function, not sure if that's the same thing as CD+G though.

    Ooops forgot about the mic.

There is no mic on the saturn. I actually have a cassette karaoke amp which is worthless except for the two mic inputs.

Yes those karaoke CD's are nothing but the old CG+G format. There are a number of early 90's music CD's that have some hidden stuff on them. It's kind of cool to watch Rock Paintings and think what might have happened it multimedia didn't take off on the PC

I have a Hitachi Karaoke Unit for my Saturn (specifically designed for the Saturn). I think it was the cheap solution for those who did not want to spring for a Navi HI-Saturn. I have never used it as I don't have any Karaoke CD's.
