Default Chokkan Hitofude for the DS--is it worth buying?

This game has looked interesting to me, and I will have a chance to buy it soon. Has anyone here played it? Is it easy-to-navigate, so that someone like me, who knows no Japanese, can play it?

It's currently slated for a US release with the working title "One-Line Puzzle". Personally, I'm holding off for a few months to see if it pans out, otherwise I think imports of it will be cheaper some six months from now, which is not uncommon for launch titles.

Well, the thing is, Play-Asia's weekly special is this game, for $24.90--likely cheaper than the US version will be. Still worth it?

How much is shipping versus tax? I'm guessing it will come out at $29.95 in the states (assuming it's still coming out). The previews I've read seem to indicate the isn't much of a language barrier, but I haven't tried the game, so I'm not sure.

    Cheers,

At that price + $2.60-$3.60 shipping, I'm tempted to order from them as well. From what I've read, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I haven't seen pictures of any of the menu screens, so I don't know how much text is involved.

The game looks interesting. I want it, but I can wait for a US release, if there will be one. Otherwise, I will import it.

I had to buy this... here's what I picked up:
    Chokkan Hitefude for NDS--$24.90
Mario vs. Donkey Kong figures--$2.90 each
    Zelda 4 Swords figures--$2.90 each
My total came to $34.90. I can hardly wait!!

Did you get Chokkan Hitofude yet? Is it cool? I caved and ordered it, so I guess I'll find out soon enough...

I just got mine today. It's a really nice addition to my small stash of DS games.

Basically, there are two game modes - Challenge, and Checkmate. In a sense, they could be likened to Endless and Puzzle modes in other games. The basic premise is to draw a line through a path of squares on the playfield. Every piece along that line will flip its color between white and black (think Ikaruga, I guess). The goal is to make every piece in a single row the same color.

In Challnege mode, new rows drop in from the top. Clearing a row by making it a single color will eliminate it, and rows from above will cascade down. Don't let the stack go past the red line. You can keep drawing lines and flipping pieces as much as necessary to clear rows.

In Checkmate mode, you must draw a single line that clears all rows of the puzzle. I've only done about a dozen so far, but I suspect they get REALLY hard.

The nice thing about the game is that control is 100% stylus-based. It makes it easy to play it one handed while eating or something. Heh.

Haven't tried versus yet, but I suppose I could go to the local game stores and transfer it onto their demo systems or something. "Hey, where the hell did this weird Japanese game come from???"

I also hear that you can download about a 10-puzzle demo onto someone else's DS from this game. Has anyone tried that out yet? Either way, I intend to pick this up at some point - I like the more bizarre/interesting puzzle games.

I haven't tried it yet, but yes, you can do that.

Another neat feature is that you can generate and enter passwords in edit mode to make it easy to share puzzles. If you check GameFAQs you'll find some people posting them.

Just got it in the mail! At first I was underwhelmed, but it's surprisingly addictive...
