You could wire it up directly to the gust of a PS2 controller (or cheap PS2 stick- as that would be easier) and then the controller still does all the electronic work, but you control the arcade bits.

Think of it as a homemade adapter.

If you're doing what I *think* you're doing, then the buttons/joysticks will just act as a bridge to connect the circuit. You're using the power right from the console to power the joypad PCB.

the arcade buttons dont require any extra power since they are normal close / open circuit breakers.

and inorder to attach an arcade controler to your ps2 you need to do 1 of 2
either build you own interface to the ps2 or gut a controller for one.
in either case it requires soldering skills and some skills in trace locating.

the green protective film on the ps2 controller pcb can easyly be scraped off using a shart razorblade by bulling ut in the opperset of cutting direction.
or simply use a carbonfiber pen (they are made for this purpose)
    Broken? fix it.

All you'd need to do, like MrKitt said, would be to solder it to the "guts" of a regular sony pad. PREFERABLY a 3rd party one. Here are some tutorials for ya:
