Default Problem with outputting what I need with Xbox.

This is an older topic I posted on the technical forum, but unfortunately I recieved no useful replies, and I was wondering if someone here could help me.

So, I gave up on looking for a good progressive scan TV (the one I had made the screen "vibrate" while scrolling in NES games. Weird.), so now I am using my old trusty TV with only composite video inputs. The TV works fine, but I'd also like to use my surround sound setup with all the neat sound features the Xbox has. This was possible with the HD AV pack I was using, and it would be possible with the VPORT cable I use at home, but not while Im using the basic AV cables, because Microsoft was too cheap to put a fiber optic port on the back.

Option one is to buy the "Advanced AV pack", but I would rather avoid that.

Option two is to get a component to composite converter. I dont even know if such things exist, especially at any decent price. Then I could use the HD AV pack and downconvert my video. I know S-video to composite adapters exits and are fairy simple, but I dont know about composite adapters. Also in this category I suppose would be to "mod" the actual pack to output composite, but this I assume is just doing on the inside what I would do on the outside to make an adapter.

Option 3 is to mod the Xbox to output fiber optic directly, but I have no idea how much a plug would cost, or how to do this.

Option 4, which I just thought of, Is to mod the Xbox to directly output "digital coaxial" RCA style. This should provide the same quality as fiber optics for all practical purposes because, well, its digital, and this format seems to carry the 5.1 signal that I want.

I guess option 5 is to not be so anal about getting a good sound, which is not really a bad option, but I'd like to know where I stand first.

I tried searching for some info on this but I had little luck.

    Any help is appreciated.
By the way, at the most recent count, I am at over 500 games. Wow.[/quote]

    Buy the "Advanced AV pack".

Anyone who has an Xbox and is able to use the digital 5.1 sound definately should try to use it. I feel this and Xbox Live are the main qualities the Xbox has.

Absolutely buy the Advanced AV pack. Buy it used even. It's the easiest option you listed. Why would you rip the system apart, modding plug and outputs you're not even familiar with or buying expensive convertors when you could get the Adv. AV pack for like $10-12 used from Gamestop or Gamecrazy. Why is ther pack an option to avoid?

Okay I guess Ill just do that, its just annoying to have so many different cords for the Xbox. If I get this Ill have pretty much all that exist.
