Yes, 5 kicked serious amounts of ass. I remember that was the first game I ever heard voice acting in. I could not BELIEVE they were talking in a game, lol. I also like how they tied the story directly to 3 because of what happens in the beginning with Graham's son.

That'd almost be my favorite too if it weren't for that damn arcade game. I just suck at it. My favorite in the SQ series is probably SQII and IV. Awesome stuff.

Damn, now I feel like loading up dosbox ;D.

I see, I guess I won't be getting that game. And SoulBlazer, by reading your sig, have you beaten Magna Cum Laude? I'm up to the thrid set of girlz in that game. That game is so funny. Flack...I've never played Police Quest nor have I played Space Quest.

I did. I never had a PC back in those days so I could never *play* those games though. Kings Quest. Police Quest. And Leisure Suit Larry. I try to find 'em every once in awhile but always come up short. It's a holy grail of mine I suppose you could say.

Those of you who liked that style of games should also check out Black Cauldron. It was based on Disney's movie of the same name, but looked played almost identical to the early King's Quest games.

The Police Quest games were a bit frustrating because you had to follow set procedures. I remember one part where you had to always check the tires in your car before driving, or you would have a blowout.

I've never played the Police Quest or Space Quest games.

I finished the new Leisure Suit Larry game last week. Have not wrapped up all the endings or loose ends, but it was a GREAT game.

I used to have the VGA enhanced version of Police Quest 1. But it was loaned out to a buddy back in the mid 90s, and suffice it to say, I haven't seen it since.

The only Police Quest game I actually liked was Police Quest II: Revenge of the Death Angel. That is the one where you had to inspect the car each time before taking it out. But all you had to do was type "Inspect car" and it took care of everything....

I never played PQ3 or 4. I forgot to mention another classic I played once on a buddies system but never found for myself. Phreddy Pharkus: Frontier Pharmecists. That is another of Al Lowes greatest adventure games. Last Leisure Suit Larry I played was LSL6: Shape up or Ship out. It was okay, but nothing really beats the comedic elements of that first one.

Oh...the guy that did the first couple of Police Quest games..I believe his name was Jim Walls...anyway, he was the designing mind behind another now semi obscure Sierra adventure that I thought was amazing. I am talking about Codename: ICEMAN. That had a little of everything in it...

I actually picked up a copy of the Black Caldron a few years back at a thrift store for .99 cents. It came on 5 1/4 which I don't have my ancient 5 1/4 drive connected at the moment. So I found a site where I could get the game and play my legal backup of that one from a 3.5.

As for those of you who have never played Space Quest...you really can't be considered a classic adventure gamer without having played the following games:

    Zork (any of them..)
    Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy
    King's Quest 1 (At least 1 if not 1 and 4..again, 5 I thought was only OKAY)
Space Quest 1 (either version the original or the enhancements...)
Space Quest 3 (You have to play this to learn why 6 is semi cool, Besides Black Sabbath was behind the main music in that one...)
    Conquests of the Longbow
Quest for Glory 1 and 2 (At least...)
    Maniac Mansion
Indy the last crusade (Graphic Adventure)
Indy and the Fate of Atlantis (Would have made a semi decent movie without the little moving toys and oricalcum crap...)
Loom (yes Loom...because it is very original and just a lovely game)
Secret of Monkey Island (Ega or VGA versions..I need the talkie version of this!!!)

Hmm..there might be a few more...I would still advise people to look into Phreddy Pharkus...but make sure it has the medical book! Complex and iritating copy protection schemes back then...

Forgot to add another series that is pretty much a must play. Of all companies...WestWood Studeio came out with a series of adventure games based on a fantasy world known as Kyrandia.

There are a total of three games in that series...and the first two are a must play. Especially the second one, Hand of Fate. Another female leading adventurer..but damn! Zanthia is good..simple as that!

Ahhh police quest. So much fun. I remember a hilarious moment in that game when I pulled over this beautiful woman in a car. I decided to hit a little on her and it turned out to be someone's wife that I worked with. He gave me a call later at this restauraunt and was quite pissed off, haha.

I played some of the Space Quest games, and I liked the humor, but just never got around to playing any of the games. And never had a chance for the Police Quest series, either. I'll have to see if I can still find them and make them work on this modern system.

There are still some good adventure games being put out. Runaway was a very fun and there's a sequel in the works. Same for The Longest Journey. And there's a company that has put out a lot of budget adventure titles, I always see them at Wal-Mart and the like, but I can't recall the name....I think it's Dreamscape.

My fav was the one where you were the slave of the wizard and had to defeat him before you could leave the house and he randomly checked up on you every so often.
That would be King's Quest 3.

Anyway, the old-skool Sierra games are by far my favorite PC games of all time. I like the Space Quest ones especially. I even beat SQ4 in a half hour once.

Defenitely check out dosbox. Great, great emulator. My space quest 1-5 collection and sq6 work just great on it. The only one I can not get to work no matter what is space quest IV. It does a very weird graphical problem. The game actually boots up fine in xp but does that weird glitch.

Works fine on 2000, you just need a patch (from spacequest.net) in order to make it so that the game doesn't play too fast. There are also patches for non-SQ sierra games.

Yes, but the games have been out of print for years.

If someone can point to me where I can find them at a PM outside of EBay, please do.

There was a recent remake of King's Quest III that was just released. It's said to be a 1:1 remake, I never played the original but I'm very satisfied with it.

    Good stuff!

    Everyone should try it out!

You and me both! I never had a console when I was a kid, but my dad was a computer nut so we always had the latest computers. Unfortunately, my dad wouldn't let me put games on HIS computer, so I had to buy my own, so my games were never cutting edge hehe.

I remember playing KQ3 on my Hercules graphics card and its monochrome palette... good times.

I played a TON of Sierra titles back in the day. Great, great stuff.

On a collector's note, I found a complete copy of the original Space Quest I for .99 in a used book store last year. TOTALLY complete, including all the fake coupons for space vendors that came with it, and it even had the original price tag of $54.99 from Radio Shack on it. AWESOME.
