model 5160 sold for 8000 in 1983, so its very possible that this one sold for 10000 in 1985.

I'll have to do some checking on that original price. That sounds really high to me. I was able to dig up the following 1985 computer prices:

Commodore 64 - $100
Amiga 1000 - $1300
Macintosh - $2,500

It's hard to imagine that a PC would go for 4 times that amount. Maybe it's because it's IBM brand. I know as a kid we had an IBM clone, and we had one in 1985, and I'm sure we didn't pay 1/10th of $10k for it.

The 5150 XT sold for $2,000 in 1981. It seems highly doubtful that the 5160, four years later, sold for five times that, although that 10mb drive back then was likely a $1,000 feature.

I've picked up two working Apple IIe systems from thrift stores in the last couple of months. The one I got a couple of weeks ago cost me $3 -- the one I got yesterday was $1.48 but ended up being half off that.

$10K figure seems a bit high to me - if I'd had to guess I would have said it was $2K or $5K (big difference lol). I've some old computer ads lying around that show XTs selling for a huge chunk of change.

Also, that $100 for the C64 sounds really low. Is that true?

I believe the Commodore launched at $600, but I might be wrong on that. It dropped to $200 pretty quickly, and then to $100 shortly after. I'll have to look up the dates to get more specific than that.

I'm sure than around 85/86 you could get one on sale for $99 though. In comparison, in 1985 I paid $200 for a floppy drive for it.
