if i need a big drive i'll palm it, otherwise two thumbs will do.

hmm... reading that back now i'm not too sure it was wise to word it that way.

There's no option for "drunkenly mashing the ball"...

I thought the ONLY way you can play this game is to run from about three feet back and hit the ball with your palm. That's the way we play it at happy hour, anyway. It often becomes a competition for longest drive, but the technique works just fine for any fairway shot.

I used to be a "palmer" but after missing the track ball once and bashing my hand against the plexiglass, I converted to a "thumber".

It would be a ridiculous overstatement to call myself a "Golden Tee player", but on the rare occasions when I play a few rounds, I tend to use the palm approach. Hence why I try to stay away from machines with very little distance from the track ball to the plexiglass because GOD DAMN THAT HURTS LIKE A SON OF A BITCH.

This still doesn't hurt as much as missing the trackball completely and slamming one's hand into the front of the machine.

    True story.

My co-bowlers play this at our lane every so often, and they forced me to play once. On my first shot on some hole, I thumbed in a hole in one. Our biggest (and by big I mean like 230 lbs easy at like, 6 ft 4in) bowling buddy decides to show me how he gets one, and he does the "4 feet back and wind up" approach...

And slams his hand so hard into the console that he complete de-syncs the monitor and even gets it to change into pastels.

It took about 4 more holes and two more of those slams to get the monitor back into form.

I haven't played since because I fear for my life around that machine. ^_^

One of these days I'll try with my PSX version and track ball....thumbers unite!

PS EDIT: Bonus Points + Million to the Baseball Stars Secret Code Sentence reference in the above posters avatar. Brilliant!

Yeah, I've taken some nice chunks of skin off of my palms a couple of times...
