    Default SNES Question/Help

My SNES is acting somewhat strange and I need to know what to do.

If I put a cartridge in there normally (straight down) I cannot get the game to work. I start to put it in at a slight angle, and then even it out, it does work. To better explain it, I put one end of the cart's contacts into the connectors before the other end. Is this normal behavior for a SNES console? Or perhaps it is my games? Also, will inserting the carts this way have any negative affect on them (I don't care so much about the console, for I can replace it easily)?

Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it!

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about:

    Inserting the cart regularly:

    This yields no response:

Inserting the cart at an angle:

    This brings about GAME TIME!!!!

    thanks again!

Sounds like you might need a cart and console contact cleaner, I know everybody says this but i think thats your problem. Try this grab your DKC3 cart and blow hard on the contacts (with out) spitting on them as well.

Then just plug it into your snes and hit the power it should run first time, If it does then it is your dirty contacts (and i don't mean your new jersey friends either!)

maybe you could post back and let us know what happens?

Two days ago, I thoroughly cleaned all my SNES carts (I only have about 30, so it wasn't that bad) I highly doubt that the problem is due to dirty carts.

EDIT: And it is not just the DKC3 cart, I have to do this with every single game I own, no exceptions.

It sounds like you have a bent or broken pin on the connector in the Snes.

I always say ebay (mainly cuz it's the best place for a quick solution!), but i don't even live in the US, i'm sure there must be a DP member here that knows some gaming stores in NY that you can pick up said, Connector and game bit..

Failing that ebay just might be the best place, but one thing, you've mentioned you cleaned everything, but you still have the same problem, how well did you clean the console contacts??

I'm only askin because i have had many, many US snes consoles and apart from the odd fuse poppin' and one cracked board, i'v always found problems like this are generally a build up of dust and lint. Since it's effecting not one but all your games?

Maybe try an official snes console cleaner *linkage* just a suggestion, hope you get the problem sorted either way.

PS. I know Super Nintendo's aren't indestructible, maybe i'v just had a good run with them?

Actually, I do not know how to properly clean the contacts inside the console. I only cleaned the contacts in the carts. Is there a way for me to clean out the contacts without a game bit or official cleaning kit (i.e. a free way)?

    Thanks!

Ok this is my way, some people might have a cow (about this?) maybe not who knows... more importantly who cares, but it's usually the way i clean snes console contacts, get an old tooth brush, and bend the neck so you now have an "L" Shape. make sure the short end has the brush on it.

Simply open the flap on top of the snes and give that puppy a good brushin (But NOT! too rough, nice and easy), make sure there aren't any bits of the brush left in afterwards.

Then blow hard on to the contacts to make sure any little bits of crap are out of there, then try it out..

    Try it and see!
