The dates are SET!
August 9th and 10th, back at The Plaza in Las Vegas.
Book your tickets and room reservations now! Don't let what happened to so many avid gamers last year happen to YOU! With the growth of the show and the hobby, it's gonna be a massive event!
Joe.... why las vegas?
It happens on my birthday so I could get my mom to take me but heh Las Vegas is one of the places my mom wont let me go!
Ever consider somewhere else?
For the little ones....
And, again this year, CGE falls on my birthday. Man, I am *so* there again this year.August 10th
Oh, and Joe, I volunteer to man whatever DP booths you need....manning. And, just maybe, I might be there a day early, so I can show off my rippling man-muscles with set-up.
Use me. Abuse me. Love me.

Yeah that's an excellent question, and one that we hear and attempt to address every year. If I had my way, and unlimited cash, I'd do it in the San Fran area. Unfortunately we haven't had much success a) securing that kind of floorspace, b) finding a decent price, or c) avoiding union workers (we do our own setup, and it saves tremendously on costs). The show needs to be in the west to continue attracting designers/alumni.Originally Posted by michael

Woohoo! God I love Las Vegas, and CGE 2K2 was too much fun. I hope to see everyone who was there last year again, and some new faces.

What are you guys doingp over there?!?
I sure wish we had somthing like that here in florida because I cant travel that far because of work
Actually Vegas a great place for the CGE. It's close to the alumni, it's got lots of things to do, and it's fairly cheap (hell I flew from Michigan and got 5 nights at the Plaza all for under $500). The only more appropriate place I think we could have it would be Sunnyvale. I wonder if they'd rent out Atari's old HQ?

You know, that would be UBER-bitchin'.I wonder if they'd rent out Atari's old HQ?

I've read about Classic Gamer's Exposition and think I may try to go this year. It seems like a LOT of fun! Was there a piece on CNN about this last year? I think I remember seeing a story on it.

They have gotten better and better as time goes on. I am glad that the auction was brought back. The first years auction was pretty fun with the real auctioneer and how he didn't know what things were even close to worth.
Looking forward to the auction.
GET OUT OF THE WALLS CHEATER!!!
Yup, that's always a highlight. However, this year, there will be NO Venture IIs. I can promise you that. (Private joke between DP and me.)Looking forward to the auction.

But the Dig Dug drop has to go! That was a total disaster (and really dangerous!). I wouldn't mind seeing Jeopardy come back next year.
Of course the highlight of CGE 2K3 will be Cypher...
Tempest
It's funny that depending on who you ask, this was either a "total disaster" or "the most fun thing at the show". I recently watched videotape of the Dig Dug drop from just behind the crowd and it wasn't nearly as "dangerous" as everyone says.Originally Posted by Tempest
Even so, we'd NEVER do it quite that way again. There will still be some mad frenzied rush for free stuff, but we've learned a little bit about physics and what happens when you have 500 people converge on one point.
Anyway, "Dig Dug Drop", in that precise incarnation, was only meant to be done once. Somehow all of those empty boxes had to be used for something fun!
Lots of fun in store for next year.
9th and 10th of Aug? Perfect. That means I'll be waiting on your doorstep when you get back from Vegas. I also expect you to recieve the biggest thrashing at a game to be decided upon at a later date.
This will demonstrate the severity of your beating:
Conform. Consume. Obey.
$500.00!! I guess I'd better start saving up. Sheesh.and it's fairly cheap (hell I flew from Michigan and got 5 nights at the Plaza all for under $500).
On the other hand, flying has GOT to be better than the crummy trips I've done on Greyhound > Worth considering.
ug... maybe it's time to go. But man it's so hot around there at that time. One things for sure.....i would not buy airline tickets...you'll never know when they just will not be around.
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
