Default Sonic the Hedgehog SUCKS as an interactive game!

Over the weekend, my wife bought a new treadmill. She set it up downstairs near my gaming area. Anyway, I was playing the ol' Genesis when I thought, "Hey, how about I play a game of Sonic while I run on the treadmill? And to make it interesting, I can only stop if I get through a level!"

So I played through Green Hill Zone in a few minutes. Was a bit short of breath, but doin' fine. Then I began playing the Marble Zone. You know, the "trudge slowly through the underground ruins" levels. At the 10-minute mark, I had to stop before my heart exploded.

So, other than the games *designed* to be interactive (Samba De Amigo; Dance Dance WTF; etc.), what games did YOU turn into an impromptu exercise in physical flailing about?

I wouldn't recommend Mario then...that'll throw you off...and don't play fighting games while trying that either.
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I've done that before, and I've found it's best used with either puzzlers (Dr. Mario or Tetris, on lower levels) or RPGS (used to get plenty of exercise leveling up Pokemon), and other games that require minimal controller dexterity and concentration.

Man, we have a treadmill though it is not very fast. I would love to do something like that though...

I just bought an exercise bike a few weeks ago. I have tried it with Street Fighter Zero 3 and Bust-a-Move 3. The problem is that if I get too much into the game, I slow down pedaling and kind of forget that I'm supposed to be exercising.

I like gun games for exercise...holding your arms up there for a while will do you some good, trust me.

I thought this would be a post about the Sega Activator.

I had fun in elementary school telling kids that if you played Sonic with the Activator, and threw a punch, SONIC WOULD ACTUALLY THROW A PUNCH!

Wonder how many of those I sold.

Ummmmmmmmm... well, a few games have warranted violent convulsing and frantic fidgeting out of me in the past, most recently Namco's game Breakdown. The reason for that is an overload of frustration and ultra-pissedness. I actually sweated a lot playing that game due to a great deal of intensity and profane shouting, and I'd wager that I lost a few ounces in the process. That game is BALLS hard. BALLS I say.

I have tried playing my portables while exercising on multiple occasions, but I never really liked it because the screen would keep moving. As far as console games, I never have played them while exercising. I tend to watch TV, for it is a bit easier.

You know, for a the treadmill... maybe something like Parappa would be fun to play. You could walk to the pace of the beat.

For me, games that you have to hammer on the buttons usually gets me in that football position that you run in place while hunched over

Usually this only happens when i'm playing with a friend, but Bushido Blade, Track and Field and Incredible Crisis are good examples

I still want the LifeCycle attachment for my SNES, so I can try Mountain Bike Rally with it! And I've always wondered if it would work with Cannondale Cup as well, since it's the exact same game, with some ever so slight differences. Otherwise, I'd love to play Toobin' while using a rowing machine, if I could!

I can't remember any specific games, but I've seen little kids doing this right along Especially fighting games, they're up there throwing kicks and punches along with their character.

Well, I kind of had a reverse project.
Way back in the day at the excercise pavilion my mom used to personal train at, they had one of those rowing machines where it has a TV display attached. On the screen are little respresentations of you and your coach, each with yoru own little canoe, all in almost perfect 5200 like graphics.

Well..I didn't realize the object was to *keep pace* with the coach canoe, and being the competitive little bastard I am, I immediatly start rowing like a madman to outrace him.

After about 6 minutes of power rowing I was ready to hyperventilate.

Several patrons around me were amused at how it took the coach canoe minutes to catch up to me, since I rowed so fast. ^_^
