Default Want solder practice - need mod ideas, NES / Genny

I wanna get better at soldering, and i figured that I have enough spare / not great condition NESes and genny 2s lying around that I could work on those. Anyone know any good "starter" mods I can try? Stuff like giving it different av options or such would work nicely. Some guides (preferiably with images since I suck) would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there's a mod to get stereo sound out of the back of a genny 1 I'd like to hear it.

It might just be easier to go to Radio Shack and buy a small cheap electronics kit and try to solder it together and see if it will work when you're done.

But that requires me going outside!

    But not a bad idea.

That's a damn amusing way to put it.

I really meant more of a "downtown is far" / not really wanting to go to the shack since the only one we have is in a mall, ect, but yeah. Laziness ahoy.

The NES region-mod is a piece of cake, but doesn't involve soldering - just cut pin 4 on the lockout chip.

The Genesis/MD double-switch all-region mod is pretty straightforward on a Genesis 1, but slightly trickier on most revisions of the Genny 2. Check out gamesx.com or the GameFAQS Genesis hardware page for more details.

That's not good soldering practice. Good soldering practice is to take an old motherboard and desolder parts from it, then put them back. Then see if it works when you're done.
