Yu Suzuki brought motorcycles into the arcade with Hang-On, and it's hard to forget Magical Sound Shower from OutRun. Both of these games got great ports on almost every Sega System.
Tell us what mid-80's arcade essential is your favorite, and why.
OutRun, hands down. Maybe it's the music, maybe it's just that I like racing cars more than bikes, or maybe it's just that OutRun is my favorite racing game of all time, period. I don't care what system it's on, as I have yet to play a version of OutRun that I didn't like.
Mmmm... OutRun.
On a side note - Rush fans: play the song "Red Barchetta" while playing OutRun some time. It fits it so well... and if you're good at OutRun, and start the song as the race starts, it'll be ending as you cross the finish line.
OutRun in a Heartbeat..Also the Music i OutRun is alot better..

Outrun rather than Hang-on...
poor poor Hang On
Outrun Just beats it for me, although, Super Hang On, thats a different story!

Outrun all the way, it just has more style and spectacle! Now if someone would just offer decent ports of Turbo Outrun and Outrunners...
Cheers,
Ben
OutRun by a landslide
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
Yo
Outrun was one of my favorite SMS games for the longest time until Super Hang-On came out for the genesis.
That was replaced by Virtua Racing for the 32x and then by Power Drift on the saturn.
on the other end Sega GT 2002 xbox is almost not worth the $2.99 I paid unless you need a laugh while trying to watch kids and mom attempt to finish a race

Well, I do love Hang-On. The music's great, and I spent alot of time in Shenmue playing it in the You Arcade, but Out Run beats is hands down.
Maybe if touching another biker didn't bounce you so hard off the road, I could give Hang on more props.
I love Hang On and it was amazing at the time but it really doesn't have a chance against Out Run. Hang On vs Enduro Racer would have made an interesting poll.
always been an outrun guy ... since i could walk :P that will never change
Outrun, no doubt about it. One of the few racing games I actually like!

Now all i need is to find *SOMEPLACE* that still has a "Turbo Outrun" game up and running...its been so long since i played
Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

I'm gonna go with Hang On, because the music that plays in the arcade version is way sweeter then all of Outrun's music.
Fuck you sound shower, you aren't a motorcycle.

OUTRUN. No contest for me. When I first played the game in an actual arcade, I was blown out of my seat... or rather, I was nearly rocked out of it! I didn't expect the seat of the cabinent to move as I steered... I had loved the game before, but this impressive technology from the 80's... simply amazing.

Wow. OutRun is really winning. Have to be true to it though -- its one of the few arcade machines I can still walk into an arcade and sit down at and play for an hour without thinking about it.
And OutRun2 for the Xbox (haven't seen an arcade... yet ) is just incredible.

What everyone else said.
I mean, Hang On is a freaking classic and one of my favourite 80's racers, but Out Run is Out Run. And it just doesn't come much finer than Out Run.
OutRun for me as well. Great, great music, it's still a fantastic soundtrack today. I just love everything about that game, and would die to have an arcade cab of it all to my own.
