    Default Your best NES find

What is your most memorable NES find in the wild? Finding a rare game? Finding a game you wanted to own but couldn't find anywhere? Coming across a bunch of games in a thrift store/pawn shop/yard sale/etc. for next to nothing? Something else? Tell us about it! If you've got a story, share it, and if you've got pics, share them!

For me, I don't have an NES in my collection yet (although I want to own one someday) so my find isn't that impressive - it was a loose cart of Stack Up for $7.99 at a Game Crazy. A friend of mine had just bought a ROB off of ebay and was interested in getting the game. I was at that Game Crazy the day before and remembered that I saw Stack-Up there, so I told him about it and he told me to get it and he'd pay me back, so I went back the next day and bought it.

I have two finds that I consider to be especially good. The first was about 5 years ago, when I found a complete copy of Tengen Tetris at a local video store for like $3.99. They had no idea. I also found Qix there for like 2 bucks.

The second was when I found about 20 complete and near mint NES games at a thrift store. Mostly R3s and R4s, but also Namco Ms. Pac-Man, which is like an R7.

When I was in middle school there was a comic book store which has used NES games for trade. Basically, you traded in any two games for one game on their shelf. Doomed to fail, don't you think?

Anyway, I had seen previews/reviews of River City Ransom in Nintendo Power and always thought it sounded like the best game in the world. Saw it at the comic book store, traded in Mario/Duck Hunt, and Mario/Duck Hunt.

i guess if i've achieved any sort of notoriety in the classic gaming world, it's because many years ago, i found a box full of caltron 6 in 1s at a thrift store here in l.a.: 15 shrinkwrapped, 1 complete and 1 loose (they're all long gone by now). don't know if it was a video store, a game store, or hell, someone related to the caltron company that dumped them there, but i thought the $30 i paid for the box was fair.

and speaking of fair prices to pay, here's a written-on price that i've never thought of trying to wipe off...

I found a loose Tengen Tetris in some kind of store (used games/camera equipment/cds) for $5.

Found 2 complete Stack-Ups at a flea market for $8 each.

My first great nes find ever was back in 1994 when I was in my church youth group and we were having a church garage sale to raise money for a youth trip I sold a ton of whatever and was looking around and found a few things I liked and what not then one of the girls I knew was selling nes games for 50 cents (in 1994) I bought two games and then sHE had a Aladdin deck enhancer, at the time neither one of us knew what it was (it came with dizzy) since she didn't know what it was she just gave it to me.

Six months ago I found a Xenophobe Prototype in Salvation Army for 1.99.

Not that great, but games are harder to find here:

    -Ikari Warriors (complete)
    -Flinstontes (with box)
    -Airwolf (with box)
    -Super Off Road
    -Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt

    All for 3$

I'm gonna have to travel way back for this one...back to when the nes was still in it's prime and snes wasn't even mentioned yet for a couple more years.

Metal Gear + Contra for $15 total at a yard sale (both complete!). Even today, it's a fair price, but these two babies where probably still $40-50 at the time.

I think even before that I bought about 5 or 6 (loose) games off my older cousin for $10 a pop (my parents must've helped me out or something, because there's no way I could've afforded $50 at that age). Games included gradius, metroid, castlevania, solomon's key, and I believe tennis and commando. edit: oh yeah, wizards and warriors was definitely in there.

So out of those two purchases, I got some of the best releases ever for the system (imo).

Sure, those games can be had for $1-3 now, but you just can't beat those bargains for back in the day.

Man... some of you guys have got some crazy deals! My best deals are pathetic in comparison, but here they are:

Tengen Tetris = $6 from EB a few months back
    Mermaids of Atlantis = $4
    Dragon Warrior 2 = $3
Trolls on Treasure Island (complete) = $4

Those are my best deals I got in the wild so far. I have scored some great deals on ebay, here they are:

Miracle Piano (complete) & NES with all hook ups+30 games = $90
Lot of 10 games all boxed for $12. One of the games was a complete Solitaire , and one was a boxed Panic Restaurant. I won this one last week. [/quote]

i found most of wisdom tree's library, and a few color dreams' games sealed/complete in a pawnshop a few years ago. they even had copies of the pc version of exodus. i also got 10 yard fight, snake's revenge, nightshade, hoops, tmnt, bases loaded sealed.

i got them all for $7 each, $5 for the sports titles. they were sitting there for a long time judging by the dust on them and the people in charge were happy to get rid of them so they gave me a discount (they were $10 each, and $7 each for sports title regular prices).

more recently i found a stack of boxed/complete nes games at a local goodwill. i was shocked when i looked in the display case when i found all four dragon warrior games, several other rpgs, legend of zelda, dragon's lair, q-bert, and a few others. they were all either boxed or complete and $3 each.

i didn't have enough cash on me to get them all so i bought the dragon warriors, bards tale, final fantasy, and legend of zelda. i was so happy that i sold my doubles of these games for cheap.

I think getting two loose Flintstones 2 carts on seperate occasions for $5 and $8 respectively may qualify as my best finds.

I also got a mint condition top-loader for $25 at a FuncoLand a few years back. It's been hooked up in my bedroom ever since. I don't think that's too shabby either.
