Default List of Saturn games that were also PlayStation (US)

Heh, I forget that PS1 never saw the likes of Darius Gaiden, Galactic Attack and Bust-A-Move 3. I'm especially shocked about the last one in this list.

Great list! I had no idea that Braindead 13 was also on the Saturn!

I've also recently picked up Tetris Plus on Saturn rather than Playstation (which until then did not know it existed either).

Cool topic! I find it pretty interesting, what would also make a good thread is about games on both systems that were better on Saturn. Kind of like the thread, of what Genesis/SNES games were better on Genesis.

I've played a number of these games on both systems. Here are some opinions on a few...

Alien Trilogy- Better on PSX. Saturn version rumored to only use oone of the Saturn's two CPU's

Batman Forever: The Arcade Game- Better on Saturn as the original arcade game utilized Saturn-based hardware

Contra: Legacy of War- Better on PSX, but the Saturn game also got the 3-D glasses... it was going to be released without them originally.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos- Best on PSX, but the Saturn runs a surprisingly close second. Great 3-D for a 3rd party Saturn game!

Crow, The: City of Angels- Shitty on all systems. Who cares?

Die Hard Trilogy- Better on PSX, expecially the gun section

    Doom- Miles better on PSX

In the Hunt- Better on Saturn (less slowdown)

    Loaded- Surprisingly better on Saturn

Marvel Super Heroes- No contest; Saturn. If you have a 1 meg RAM cart plugged in you'll unlock a hidden option to add more character animation, the only domestic Saturn game that does this.

Mass Destruction- Moves faster & plays better on Saturn

Mega Man 8: Anniversary Collector's Edition- Tie?

    Mega Man X4- Tie?

Powerslave- Better on Saturn with faster frame rates and smoother action

Rayman- Better on PSX, especiallly with that little window where you can see a mini version of the whole screen

    Star Fighter- Better on 3DO!

Street Fighter Alpha 2- All Capcom fighters are better on Saturn!

Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams- All Capcom fighters are better on Saturn!

Street Fighter Collection- All Capcom fighters are better on Saturn!

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo- Draw?

Tomb Raider- Better on PSX, but the Saturn is surprisingly close

Tunnel B-1- This game is all about lighting effects, so the PSX wins hands-down

    Wipeout- PSX wins. N64 better!

X-Men: Children of the Atom- Capcom PSX games always lagged behind their Saturn cousins, but this one REALLY sucked on PSX. I don't think Capcom handled the conversion.

I have Darius Gaiden for the PS1. It's a japanese import though, and a great game if you like shmups. I am surprised that never made it to the US, especially since they released G. Darius over here.

BAM3 is on the PSX, but it's named was changed to something else, BAM'99 maybe? So it won't show up as an overlap title.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.

Good catch, you two. They're both on the database but one of them has a Robo-Pit and one is Robo Pit (no dash). I will fix that.

Grid Runner is better on Saturn (has extra animation in the backgrounds)

Ten Pin Alley is IMHO better on PSX (while the Saturn version has extra features, it's in low rez)

I'm especially shocked about the first two in this list. I would've thought that Darius Gaiden would've made the cut for sure, and I dunno why Working Designs never re-released Galactic Attack on the PS as Rayforce. They did Raystorm and Raycrisis, so why would they skip over the first in the series?

BTW, props to Darius Gaiden & G-Darius, both totally awesome shmupping!

Because Acclaim had the rights to Rayforce/Galactic Attack/Layer Section, and there is no PS1 version of Layer Section in the first place to bring over.

    Some other interesting notes:

    1. D on the Saturn only takes 2 CDs. PSX took 3.

    2. I recall PSX In the Hunt being better...I recall a animation glitch in the Saturn version that made it look weird...

    3. Fox Hunt was scheduled for Saturn, poor sales of PSX version killed that.

    4. Tempest X contains the Saturn/Jaguar verison of Tempest 2000 buried inside of it, accessible via unlocking, that could be added to the list.

    5. Megaman 8 on Saturn had one additiona animation in it's water levels not present PSX version..so..ironically...the better game is the one watered down...

    6. X-Men Children of the Atom on PSX was so poorly built (or even worse, ported) from the Saturn version than Capcom scrapped it and shelved it permantly. It wasn't until Acclaim, most likely through a loophole in distributing the Saturn version, got the rights to the PSX version to release it, some YEARS later. And oh it was so coaster-ly good...

    7. Interesting point, how about going back and finding the percentage of exclusive Saturn games from the remaining 58% were *not* released by Sega?

Actually, originally it was going to be a Jaguar exclusive title. And it starred Laura Croft if I remember right. I'll have to see if I can dig up that press release. That was a weird one to see.

Tempest X contains a port of the Saturn / PC version of Tempest 2000. Both of those were ported from the Jaguar version and had the gameplay 'tweaked.' Where as the Jaguar version is insanely good, the Saturn / PC versions both have things that are just too odd to love...

I wouldn't call Sat Tempest 2000 a direct port of PSX Tempest X or vice versa.
