It depends on the situation. If I'm talking to someone that's just a casual gammer I generally referr to it by the letters because chances are they're not going to understand me if I say it as a word. Now if I'm hanging out w/my friends who grew up on the NES I just simply say "Ness".

... I wonder if it's the same people that call Mario "Marry-O" that refer to the N.E.S as "ness".

Needless to say I don't so either. Actually I'd never heard "ness" before now.

I thought I called it "Ness" around you and Robbie all the time. Maybe old age struck again.

You can put in me at the top of that list I'm starting to feel like I belong on the island of misfit toys.

So do you N.E.S.ers say NESWorld "N.E.S.World"? If so, that's a shame because NessWorld just rolls off the tongue.

I've always called it N.E.S. World, but NESWorld does indeed roll off the tongue. However, I've always thought of the Famicom version of Journey to Silius as RAFWorld rather than R.A.F. World.

Perhaps this is a regional preference?

I pronounce it N.E.S., spelled out. I didn't even know people said "Nes" until probably my second year of CGE. But here's MY question: Would SNES then be pronounced like "Snes" (S-nehs)?

Excellent question! Wish I would have thought of it.

I've tried saying Snehs once or twice RetroYoungen, but it just doesn't sound right. So I gave up on that a long time ago.

I've tried saying too, it just comes across as awkward. Though I did hear a couple of people say it that way at CGE, and it just didn't sound quite right to me.

Its seems from looking at the location of people on this thread that those from North America mainly call it N.E.S. while those from Europe/Australia say NES. In the UK I know it was generally said as one word because I always said NES and I would only have been copying what other people/TV said when I was young. Same with SNES. I remember there was a games programme where the presenter had a lisp and would always pronounce SNES by saying STHNEZ. Quite funny! Saying N.E.S. or S.N.E.S. sounds like a mouthful to me.

Oh and I (and eveyone I know) also say Marry-O! :P

I agree. I've never heard anyone call the system the Ness. That's an Earthbound character not a system.

i call it by the letters, it's an acronym, and ive never heard anyone call it the "ness".

I really use both. Sometimes, if someone refers to it as N.E.S, then I will say it like that.

Always been N.E.S. for me and anyone else I've talked to. Never heard of it being pronounced Nes before this thread. It sounds so wrong to me ears. So would you pronounce the Super as Snes? *boggle*
