Default Playing the original After Burner on MAME?

No matter what I do, I can't get the original After Burner to work on MAME32. I've tried several different roms on several different versions of MAME32 (including the latest version, which is what I have now), and nothing works. It won't even recognize the zip file when I do an audit. This is one of my all-time favorite arcade games, and I'd love to be able to play it. What am I doing wrong? (After Burner II works fine, BTW, but I really want the original I grew up with.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there a big difference between the two?? I always wondered what part one looked like.

Aren't they both the same game? I always thought that Afterburner 2 was the name of the American release.

I wish I could help out with playing the game on MAME32. I've noticed that a lot of recent versions have not worked on my computer (games not running), and I've never understood why. I just moved to MAME 32FX instead and everything works fine.

I'm not sure what the differences between After Burner I and II are, but I'm pretty sure After Burner II is not the same game. The Genesis version of After Burner II was indeed the same game as the original, but I don't think that's the case w/ the arcade version. Anyone know for sure?

BTW, I just tried MAME32 FX, and After Burner doesn't work there either.
