    Default Best XBOX Live Games

I apologize ahead of time if this has been done.

What are the best games for use on XBOX live? I'm already playing Halo 2 and bought SW Battlefronts and Mechassault 2. Battlefronts wasn't the best experience so far.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm always partial to a game of Midtown Madness 3. Depends on your feeling about "racing" games though. If you want realistic physics and wahtnot then steer clear as it's more arcadey. Added bonus of being able to pick it up for peanuts these days.

Second choice would be Burnout3. Been a while since I played it online as I gave up after getting so frustrated at the shoddy EA setup at the beginning. They could've improved it since then. Anyone else play B3?

Crimson Skies seems to be liked by quite a few folks though isn't my tastes.

Unreal Championship is OK, it's not Halo2 but it's still ok.

    Crimson Skies, hands down.

    Top Spin is pretty good.

Burnout 3 is great online (when EA's server are co-operating).

    Hmm, what else...Project Gotham Racing 2... Rainbow Six 3 (or RB63: BA)...Counter-Strike...

Outrun 2 is an excellent arcade racer. It seems like the UK is the only region playing online, though. Heh.

And I second Unreal Championship. The only real problem with it is the cryptic weapon selection mechanism. It's only like $9 used at EB, so grab a copy.

Oh, and that Tetris Worlds/Star Wars: Clone Wars combo is good to have too.

My two favorites are certainly Rainbow Six 3 and Tetris Worlds. But I expect this to change once I get a chance to really get into Halo 2 online. I've only played about 10 minutes of Halo 2 on Live, but I can already tell it's such a good implementation and I'm going to love it.

I would have expected more DPers to be all about Tetris online! It's really great to play against some serious players once in a while. None of my friends have spent enough time playing Tetris to really give me a good fight, but on Xbox Live, I seem to find worthy competitors all the time. Especially now that there are so many other Live games to choose from... If someone is still playing Tetris, they're probably pretty good!

My gamertag is Tioli if anyone wants to find me out there.

The upcoming online Street Fighter Anniversary Collection should be pretty cool. And Conker: Live & Reloaded looks to have a good online mode as well.

if you want a racing fix, i believe nothing, NOTHING beats Project Gotham Racing 2, and its only 20 bucks, you cant go wrong.

also if you wanna beat the crap out of people, pick up Guilty Gear X2, another 20 dollar wonder, fun as hell.

I've been a big proponent of Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. But you have to really love the giant robots with guns to do it.

Anyway, I think that if you are going to get an online game, it would be best to get one that is in a genre that you really enjoy to begin with, and preferably to get it very close to the release date.

I don't think that the first point needs much explanation. I'm not an RTS guy, so I'm just not going to enjoy the latest Blizzard online RTS, even if it is the pinnacle of the form.

As far as the second point goes, in an online game there are going to be people who have played the game since day 1. If you also start on day 1 (or day 10, or day 30), then you can grow in skill with them. If you come in on day 365, then you're going to find that the playerbase has shrunk, the number of new players coming into the game is low, and the majority of players will be the stubborn ones who refuse to move on to a new game (like the game industry wishes they would) and as a result have developed super-elite skills. These are the players who will be handing you your ass until you can get over the learning curve. Maybe that won't take so long. But maybe you'll get pissed off and discouraged and give up before making it, and then you'll wonder why you bothered buying the game in the first place.

    Just my two cents.

That's great advice man. I buy my Live games release week or not at all. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow taught me that lesson
