Default My game of the day (2/30): Heart of Darkness

    Heart of Darkness (Playstation)

This game amazed me the first time I played it, it was one of my first PSX games and wow was it awsome! the whole concept behind the shadows being the enemies, and the whole style of it was just amazing. I love how the shadow in the background that LOOKS like its there for show suddenly turns into a huge demonic shape.

I also love how there are no item screens, health bars, nothing. Just a flat out platform puzzler (think ICO in 2d only without the princess, oh and you have a gun).

Sadly I never beat the game, I got near the end but became caught up in a hard part. It is one of my top 25 games of all time I would say, and definitly one of the best psx games and one of the best platformers.

I plan on going and playing it soon and attempting to beat it. Your thoughts on this game?[/b]

I heard that the movie Apocalypse Now is based off of Heart of Darkness. Maybe it's just me but they seem to be very different.

    Of course, I kid. 8-P

Dude, the movie Apocalypse Now is supposed to be based off the BOOK Heart of Darkness, not the game. Apocalypse Now came out years before there was even such a thing as the PSX.

I remeber this came out around the same time as Abe's Odessy if i remember correctly and was compared to it a lot!
I found it to be alot more addicitive than Abes Odessy personally...
    Real classic!

If I'm not mistaken, this game was developed by the same guy who created Out Of This World... a nice pedigree, to be sure.

Yes, definitely check out Out of this World and Flashback (released on various older systems). Both are a fair bit harder than Heart of Darkness though. I haven't played Heart of the Alien yet (the sequel to Out of this World) but it's supposed to be even harder. Yikes!

Definitely one of my favorites on PSOne. I prefer it to the PSOne Oddworlds actually...

... I used to see Heart of Darkness at EB constantly. I thought it was like a normal platformer. But another game like Abe's, Blackthorne, or Out of the World, I'd play. O.o

it is truly unique just because of its design, shadows being the enemies. You really should pick this up if you can still get it!

It gets a bad rap, if you ask me. I've come across so many people online who think it's absolutely wretched. When I recently picked it up in a lot, I was expecting a lame game, but once I started playing I was like "Hey, this isn't so bad. o_O"

The only bad thing about it I'd say is the character design and CG. o_O Blech, that kid and dog are retarded looking.
