Default Trouble with SMS Micro Machines on US system

A buddy of mine that lives in the UK recently came to visit and brought me a small pile of non-US Master System games, including Micro Machines. Only problem is, I'm having a helluva time getting it to work.

It totally doesn't work on my Power Base Converter, nor my Game Gear w/Master Gear Converter (black screen on both). It will start up on my Master System, showing the "Codemaster's" logo, but it's only a blue screen after that (and not the typical 'no signal' blue screen, just a blue SMS screen). I can hear some music, but get no picture.

Can anybody in the US confirm if this title works on an NTSC system? I know that Codemasters sometimes uses some funky stuff in their games, and wonder if this isn't just some kind of wacko compatibility issue. The other 7 games he brought work just fine.

So is it just me, or do other people have this problem?

I think it's because the Codemasters games for the SMS are all in PAL format. I too have run into problems with Micro Machines not running after the logo along with other codemasters games. Hope this helps.

I've imported games for the SMS from both England and Australia, and I haven't found one yet that hasn't worked - supposedly they are PAL/NTSC independant. Furthermore, the Game Gear could care less if it's PAL or NTSC since it's the same hardware sold in all countries. Maybe Codemasters did added a region lockout?
