Default ps2 obviously finally giving in?

Lately my games have a hard time loading , some newer work just fine, but older ps2 games tend to not load right during part of the game(just happened to me today got ring of red used with barely a scratch). Ps1 games work 100 percent , but my ps2 is gonna give in anytime soon entirely?

note : I have had my ps2 since summer of 2002

spray some compressed air in there and you'll be fine. My PS2 will go fine, then crap out, get some air, and go fine again. It's all dust buildup on the lens.

Now that I have no answer for. Did you try it in both controller ports? If that doesn't work did you try hitting it? That always works for my electronics when they give out.

Before you run out and throw down some serious cash for a new unit...there is a fix for slow loading times. I'm trying to track down the forum that I read this in and as soon as I find it I will post back here with a link. Technical and Restoration Society here at DP might offer some suggestions too.

Well,if you haven't opened up the system call Sony..They should still fix it for free.
Explain to them everything that is going on with it/controller etc and they should fix it..

I've sent them a few, referred people to do so and a woman vendor at the flea market had just sent her kids system in after I told her to and they fixed it free.

My PS2 from launch is still working surprisingly. I find it's easiest to just open it up and clean it myself instead of sending it to Sony. I use a can of compressed air to clean dust away and then very carefully, clean the lense with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. After that, no more Disc Read Errors and slow loading times for around 6 months. Then I just repeat the cleaning process.

Wow! If this really works I'll be rich. I get like 5 people a day ask me if I know where they can get their ps2 fixed locally. I'm gonna test it out tonight by trying to fix my brother in law's ps2. His won't read either format as they both went out at different times. Thanks for the link.

I've had mine since release and haven't opened it or cleaned it or anything and its fine. I find the best way to keep your PS2 in good condition is to turn it off when not in use and not move it around unless you absolutely have to.
