Default POLL : Do you rent games?

I just had to ask. I'm opening a game store soon and wanted to know if I should even bother renting games. There are so many other places that do it already in the area (i.e. Rogers Video, Blockbuster, etc.) that I don't know if there's a point. Then again, it's a potentially lucrative.

I voted "rarely". Sometimes I'll rent a game if I am really curious to play it but dont think I want to buy it, or I think I can beat it during one rental period (like Ace Combat). Usually though I just wait until games are dirt cheap used and buy them.

I never do, but then again, there isn't any rental place that close to my home, so I'd tend to get overly lazy over returning them.

When you open your store, I would definitely rent to your customers. Here at DP everyone is a collector, so you'll get a bunch of NO votes. But walk into any other store and you'll see tons of kids & avg. gamers renting their allowance away!

I'm with Chris. Although, since I'm primarily a solo gamer and most of my games are geared that way. I will occasionally rent the newest incarnation of Madden or whatnot if I have someone around who's willing to play. Since I would never shell out the bucks for a new copy of any sports game that just changes the team rosters from year to year.

These guys are right. I would definatly rent them out, cause just about everyone I know rents games. I don't though, cause I would rather add another game to my collection. You are asking collectors, not gamers (well both, but were still collectors). Your better off trying a board like gamefaqs or IGN. I would say rent them though, cause just about everyone I know rents games.

If games do jump in price next gen like people are predicting, then yeah, I think this sector of the industry will make a move. There's still not a great online place for game rentals (yes, I HATE Gamefly, too long to ship) so at least games are safe. Movies are entirely different story.

As for me, for $5, I'll always rent. I only buy when the system is dead or if I can get the game cheap. No way I'm dropping $50 without playing a game first unless the system is launching (have to take a chance on at least one game then).

Rarely. If I'm having company and I have to have the latest and greatest on hand, I will rent them. Otherwise, there are many, many cheap games out there for the 6 or 7 dollar rental fee.

I voted yes. I subscribe to Gamefly and rent lots of games (on average, 2 per week).

If *I* had a store that rented games, I would offer different payment plans. Like a "short" rental period and a longer one. You know what would be even nicer? A dollar a day per game rental fee. Hastings charges $5 for 5 day game rentals, but often I want a game for a single night (if I need to write a review) or two days over the weekend. $5 is too much for that. But other times, I might want to get an RPG and keep it for a week, and would gladly pay a buck a day for that.

These days I rarely do. When Blockbuster first came out with that gamers pass I took advantage of it for a full summer. Then they changed it to one game at a time and I kinda lost interest. If there's a big name game I wanna play I rent it though (MGS3, for example). I don't spend 50 dollars on a game thats easily rentable.

I've completely stopped renting. I just buy whatever I want anymore. I think it's more of a collector's thing tho. Your average person still rents a lot.

No... not since Disc media became standard, last game I rented was Carmagedon 64 when it came out. I just buy what I think looks cool, if it means something I'll end up hating... so be it.

I wish I rented more often, but I don't. If I did, I never would have wasted my hard-earned money on pieces of Garbage like Prince of Persia: Warrior within and Musashi: Samurai legend.

Here in my city, only Blockbuster rents original xbox and ps2 games. They have a small selection (maybe 40 different titles for each system) and it costs 3.95 for 2 days...I dont rent...I do use bittorrent lol

I used to rent when i was young and had no cash. Now i just tend to go out and buy all of my stuff.

When i was younger, their was this video store near my house. The owner was a complete and utter "gamer" he had everything. He even had a near complete neo geo collection that he would rent out. (i live in oz so this is very rare) The video store used to also rent out 3do machines and games as well as laser discs.

Literally everygame that you could think of, he had bought for the store. When i great game wasn't available locally, then he would buy an import copy as well as an import converter to run the game. Great guy.

The point is that, i went to this video store becuase it had so much to offer me compared to other stores, stuff that at the time i couldn't even consider purchasing due to the price (neo geo).

So if you are going to rent games, give customers something that they can't get at places like Blockbuster etc.

    Goodluck with your shop.
