Default EarthBound… Great game !… dialogue poor :<

I’ve been totally addicted to Earthbound for the SNES lately (now I see why they go for so much on ebay) but I can’t help but notice how lame some of the dialogue is. How many times do you go up to a guy in town and get the following type of useless dialogue:

“Hi….. I’m just a guy under a tree…. I have nothing important to say to you…. Why are you talking to me…. I love when the birds cherp under the tree that I am standing under….” And on and on…

I bet you the writer’s at APE (the people who created the game) were overwhelmed with the number of characters that the graphics people placed in the towns. I mean, there are a large number of people in each town.

Just an observation… great game though!

    o_O

The pointless dialogue is the best part of the game.

I guess it's cute at first but it sure gets annoying when you get trapped in a long useless conversation and you're trying to get somewhere.

This game has got to be one of the odder RPG's I've ever played.

Sometimes the game is wacky...often pointin fun at itself.

Hey, anyone ever try to translate what those yuppies are saying at that club? VERY STRANGE STUFF!! Hilarious! Strange pseudo-philosphical bullshit indeed.

Earthbound is both a serious RPG and a bit of a parody of other RPGs, which is why I love it, but also why I understand that some people may hate it. If you play Earthbound with the expectation of moving through the game fast, you won't like it so much. If you take time to look at everything, you might really enjoy the eccentrities of the characters and situations. I do.

The best was the utterly random story in the dresser in the waterfront property in Onett.

    'Kyuie
'(One of my friends can use the teleport.)
    'Kyu? Kyikki?
'(What? You've never heard of it?)
    'Kyukyu Kyui
'(Then, I'll give you King banana.)
    'Kyu Ukyukui?
'(That didn't make sense, did it? But, anyway, I'm attractive, don't you think?)
    '(Ness got the King banana.)

How can you not love THAT?

Fantastic game, and the dialog is what makes it as quirky and great as it is.

"There's parking meters! And you're walking around? Isn't that funny?"

"Do you want me to sharpen you? Sharpen, sharpen, sharpen!"

Ahh...mere words cannot describe my love for earthbound.
