Default ti99 joystick adapter box...NOT as easy as it seems.

i've been working at the ti99 joystick adapter box found here
    http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/hardwar.../joystick.html
    for a while now.
    Notes:
Pin four off the TI, not six, appears to be fire.
I did this project first with hacked up genesis extenders. It failed twice; first time i had directions but no fire. second time, i had fire but no up.
The third time, i bought a project box, a crimper, cable ends, the works at radio shack, good bye $12+ too much time.
Anyone actually DONE this project? I'm getting just a LITTLE impatient with this damn circuit...

Two thoughts off the top of my head. One is that the up direction does not work if the caps lock key is down (you might already know this, I found out the hard way two nights ago). The other is that the mod is for 2600 joysticks, genesis and sms controllers need 5v which isn't available.

I looked at that diagram some more and remembered this issue coming up before. It has a mistake, a 2600 stick doesn't even use pin 5, that's a paddle line. Switch the pin 5 connections to the pin 8s which are 2600 joystick ground and see if that works.

well the limey thing broke again, so i'll most likely rebuild it. I THOUGHT of using pin eight, quite a while ago....when it didnt add up...was not quite sure. I hope i did not wreck it with a bad ground.
Also: Props to you, john. Your coleco video mod rocks

figured i'd update as I have reason to.
    I changed the ground wires.
    Then it still didn't work...
And then I realsed ALPHA LOCK WAS ON.
I'll see if this thing still works in a week......meanwhile, onward i go to attempt a 7800 s video mod.

Heh-heh, gotta love that Alphalock key. For the s-video mod get sync and one luma working first before moving on. Makes things much easier.
