Default I'm having a prob. with Magic Engine and CD game sound,Help!

I have the PC Engine emulator known as Magic Engine. It works great for trying out PC Engine and TG-16 games. It also plays the CD games, but for some reason, I can't get the background music to play.

I only have one TG-16 CD game. It's the one with Gates of Thunder, Bonk's Adventure and Bonk's Revenge all on one CD.

When I play Gates of Thunder, the sound effects work fine, but I don't get any background music.

I've played around with the various options, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

Anybody have any experience with using the Magic Engine emulator and CD games?

I have this same issue as well when I go to play a physical disk in a physical drive, near as I can figure it's a sound card issue but all of my drives' audio lines are where they should be.

When I goto play with a disk image mounted on my hard drive, the music comes through fine.

you know, I figured as much. How does one go about getting the image of the disk onto the hard drive?

I'm totally clueless about Iso's and all of that. But for emulators on the PC and CD based games, it seems that you need to have a Iso image on your hard drive rather than the disk in your CD drive.

Is there an easy way to get a image of the disk on your PC ? Where exactly do you put the image?

Some cd drives when used with magic engine wont play the audio through the pc speakers. If you plug some headphones into your cd driive you will hear the music.

Luckily my laptop drive works ok with it so i can lay my pce cd version of rainbow islands Yay.

Try the latest version of magic engine & see if that helps, i know its a common problem.

I'm using headphones, and I think it is the most current version.

    CloneCD, Virtual Daemon.

Be aware that you often have to configure an emulator's settings to access the virtual drive instead of defaulting to drive 'D'.

I had the same problem. Make sure that there is a cd audio cable connected from your cd rom drive to your sound card. I'm not sure why you have to do this but it works.

I've had problems with the sound breaking upin ME. However, the only time I ever tested ME with discs was on some pirate CDRs some jerk sent me once (told me they were real). When trying them in a real Duo, there were somewhat similar issues. I really should try ome real discs, come to think of it.

Yeah, I have mine connected and can get the drive to play audio discs on its own, it's just one of those issues that evades me and I was hoping someone had a solution through software.

Soundcard probably just doesn't want to cooperate, it is a cheapo knockoff brand afterall.

If you have another CD/DVD drive, try that. I also had CD audio issues and had to get an internal audio cable.

Magic Engine will not play sound off of the cd digitally, you need to connect an analog cable from your cd rom drive to the CD IN port on your sound card. I don't know if you've already done this or not, but if you haven't, that'd probably be your problem.
